Tigers outplay Santa Teresa in Darwin
REIGNING Tiwi Islands Football League premiers Imalu have won the right to play at the MCG after defeating Santa Teresa in the 12-team community division of the AFL Northern Territory's pre-season carnival in Darwin at the weekend.
Imalu, which has won a record 15 TIFL premierships*, including last season's over Tapalinga, defeated Santa Teresa to book their spot as one of two teams to play the curtain-raiser in the AFL's Dreamtime at the 'G next year.
This match, between AFL clubs Essendon and Ricmond, is the feature match of the AFL's annual Indigenous Round.
The Tigers defeated Santa Teresa by 16 points in the grand final, 7.7 (49) to 1.3.6 (that score included one 9pt super goal).
The Saints were gunning for a second trip to Melbourne after having won the right to play there last year, where they lost to Victorian club, Fitzroy Stars
The Melville Islanders, few of whom have yet to visit Melbourne, went through the carnival undefeated but had to hold off the gallant Saints in the grand final.
