MAGPIES to meet Pioneer after disposing of Wests in emphatic fashionREMOTE community football club Yuendumu have won through to the AFL Central Australia grand final after disposing of defending premiers Wests in Alice Springs on Saturday.
The Magpies simply outclassed the Bloods in most key areas, winning their preliminary final bout by 45 points, 15.18 (108) to 9.9 (63).
Sebastian Watson with three goals led the way in their commanding win over Wests, the Magpies dominating at every stage. It now sets up an intriguing match with Pioneer on Saturday.
Cole nabs Minahan Medal as Red Centre's bestPIONEER playmaker Joe Cole has been rewarded for a stellar season with his winning the Minahan Medal as the AFLCA's fairest-and-best player in 2008.
Cole won the league's top individual award by two votes ahead of South Alice Springs' Charlie Maher and three ahead of Anmatjere's Kenny Morton.
One of Cole's opponents this Saturday, Yuendumu's Liam Jurrah, who had a brief stint with AFL club Collingwood's VFL team this year, polled 16 votes to place fourth.
Cole was the only Eagles player to place in the top 10, with highly regarded youngster Curtly Hampton, Andrew Baker (7 each) and Dillon Measures (6) the only other Pioneer players in the top 20, whereas nine footballers from community teams placed in the top 20 votes.

Roos, Cowboys to meet in grand final
IN the AFLCA's Under-17s, minor premiers South Alice Springs will meet Anmatjere in the grand final in a repeat of the second semi-final.
The young Cowboys, who finished the season four premiership points behind the Roos on the ladder, defeated Rovers by a massive 70 points, 17.9 (111) to 5.11 (41), in their preliminary final on Saturday.
Prior to their second semi-final clash, which Souths won by 16 points, their only other meeting this season was in Round 11 when Anmatjere won by 27 points.
