THE North Adelaide Football Club announces that Shannon Motlop has decided to retire from the SANFL forthwith.
Shannon has battled back problems for the past 12 months and after discussions with the medical staff, it was revealed that those problems would continue to worsen.
Shannon, originally from Darwin, has called NAFC home since he was 17-years-old. Even when the AFL called twice, firstly to the Kangaroos and then to Melbourne, Shannon always returned to the club to play.
A skilful half-forward who had the 'X' factor, Shannon could turn a game in a quarter of football as evidenced with the three-goal effort last year in the preliminary final versus the Eagles.
Very well liked by the players Shannon will be missed by everyone at NAFC.
Shannon will move back to Darwin in November this year, and we wish him, his pregnant wife and little boy Brodie all the very best. We look forward to Brodie one day continuing the Motlop tradition and playing football at the Roosters.
* Shannon Motlop career: 56 SANFL games, 69 goals, 64 AFL games with Kangaroos and Melbourne, 1999 AFL premiership player with Kangaroos, 2000 VFL premiership player with Sandringham.
