Davey's first steps back
Meanwhile, Essendon forward Alwyn Davey has literally taken his first steps toward recovery from a knee reconstruction.
Davey, who suffered a tear in the the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in late April, started running for the first time this week.
"I'm just doing a bit of a jog now so hopefully I can improve on that in the coming weeks," he said. "I wanted to get back to doing some running, obviously I miss it.
"I'm not running full-on, but just getting into some jogging and hopefully I can pick up the pace a bit more in the next few weeks."
Though pleased with his progress to date, Essendon's medical staff have ruled out a return this season.
"The club physio reckons I'm doing really good for how many weeks that I am (into rehabilitation)," Davey said. "I see the surgeon in three weeks' time and hopefully he says everything is all good, too."
Davey also missed the final eight weeks of the season last year in his debut season because of a broken arm
Also, Jeff Farmer has made a return to Fremantle after being omitted for missing a recovery session after the game against St Kilda at Telstra Dome.
Dockers coach Mark Harvey said he was impressed with Farmer's WAFL performance two weeks ago when he kicked five goals for South Fremantle last week.
"It has basically been two weeks out, with the bye last week. I was happy with how he went back there (South Fremantle) and what he did," Harvery said.
"It was a minor offence that saw him put back there and I wasn’t going to go over the top with the penalty. We didn’t decide straight away after he played; it was based on selection yesterday and circumstances have changed a little as we didn’t know Peter Bell was going to retire."
