THE AFL and the Essendon and Richmond football clubs have announced the line-up for next weekend's Dreamtime at the 'G event to coincide with the start of its 2012 AFL Indigenous Round campaign.
The campaign and Dreamtime at the 'G will feature the iconic Goanna song 'Solid Rock' from the landmark best-selling 1982 album Spirit of Place. With the values espoused by Solid Rock as relevant today as they were 30 years ago and to celebrate the 30-year anniversary, Shane Howard has recorded a new version of the track to be released later this year.
Dreamtime at the 'G will include a spectacular line-up of performers including Shane Howard and his band along with Dan Sultan, Amy Saunders, Emma Donovan, William Barton, Bart Willoughby and Tjimba Possum Burns.
The pre-match presentation will also feature a contemporary ceremony drawing on traditional customs and rituals, featuring a Wurundjeri creation story, dance, puppetry and lighting.
AFL general manager of strategy and marketing Andrew Catterall said: "Solid Rock" is one of the most iconic and popular Australian songs that promotes the spirit of reconciliation, the underpinning philosophy of Dreamtime at the 'G.
"The AFL is proud that this new version of Solid Rock is the soundtrack for this year's AFL Indigenous Round, which is a key part of our Australia’s Game campaign."
The AFL kicked off its campaign for the 2012 Indigenous Round -- Round 8 of the 2012 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
Shane Howard said: "It's a great honour for me to be singing Solid Rock as a part of Dreamtime at the 'G. It's always such a special evening. I'm a Tigers man, so it's even more special for me.
"When Solid Rock was released 30 years ago, I couldn't have even imagined an event like this.
"It's a great night for all of us, as Australians, black and white, to come together and celebrate as one, the game we all love and call our own, Australian football."
Dan Sultan said: "It's great to be a part of Dreamtime at the 'G once again. My heritage and my footy are both very important to me, it's a great night."
