THE Tiwi Bombers are on track for an historic first premiership after demolishing Nightcliff by 104 points in Darwin on Saturday.
The Bombers outclassed the Tigers in almost every department, winning the second semi-final 26.20 (176) to 11.6 (72) to advance through to the NTFL Premier League Grand Final in a fornight's time.
It is the second time the Bombers have made the Top End league's grand final. The first was two seasons ago when they and St Mary's met; the spoils going to the Saints by 10 points on that occasion.
It's a remarkable feat considering the club is a newcomer to top level football in the Northern Territory. This season is the Tiwis' fifth in the NTFL.
The Tiwis did it with heavy hearts on Saturday; the death of half-forward James Puautjimi's father in the days leading into the final weighing on the players' minds.
The task now for Mo Motlop, coach of Nightcliff, is to regroup his shell-shocked Tigers ahead of this Saturday's preliminary final against Wanderers, coached by his brother Paul.
The Eagles' remarkable rise was again evident on Saturday when they were eight goals down to defeat St Mary's.
