WHEN Brett Goodes popped a gentle pass over to a team-mate in the clear in front of goal, Williamstown could begin celebrating.
The resultant goal gave the Seagulls a 16-point buffer from Claremont late in the final quarter of Saturday's inaugural Foxtel Cup grand final at Subiaco Oval.
Barely a minute later, Goodes' Seagulls team-mate Nathan Djerrkura marked truly and sealed the deal with his second goal to hand Williamstown the first premiership in the Australian State/Territory league club championship competition.
The Seagulls won the first Foxtel Cup Grand Final by 21 points, 9.5 (59) to 5.8 (38).
The Victorian team led at every change and survived a desperate Tigers fightback in the final term to claim the $40,000 prizemoney.
The WA side rallied in the third term and were five points down at the final break. But three near misses during a spirited 10-minute burst midway through the last quarter cruelled their chances.
Claremont's Gerrick Weedon showed maturity and composure for the Tigers in a variety of roles. His flying, defensive mark into an opponent and later a goal suggest his days of an AFL call-up won't be all that far away.
However, fellow West Coast-listed player, Lewis Broome, had little impact on the game.
Josh Hill showed his class with several influential passages of play for Williamstown.
Djerrkura and Weedon were named as best players for their respective sides.
