THE Kimberley's Alroy Gilligan has had an eventful fortnight: earning his original club a handy cheque and playing a part in his WAFL team advancing to an August grand final.
Gilligan (pictured) collected a game-high 27 possessions in the Tigers' narrow loss to West Perth in their previous-round WAFL match.
Gilligan, 21, earned $250 for Yiyili Power, his original club in the Central Kimberley, for the WAFL Player of the Week award for his efforts against the Falcons.
He also receives $250 as part of the award and is now in the running to win $5000 for the WAFL Player of the Year award.
On Saturday, Gilligan was in the thick of it at Subiaco Oval in the Foxtel Cup semi-final between Claremont and South Australia's Port Adelaide.
The Tigers won that contest by 16 points, 11.7 (73) to 8.9 (57), and will now meet VFL side Williamstown on August 6.
Gilligan was once on AFL club Richmond's rookie list. He was pick number 59 in the 2009 rookie draft and spent most of his two-year stint in Melbourne playing in the VFL with feeder club, Coburg.
Back home with the WA Tigers, Gilligan has played 13 games to date with the Foxtel Cup match his first. He came to Claremont through its Colts and reserves teams via the Clontarf Football Academy.
The Foxtel Cup Grand Final is likely to be played at Subiaco Oval.
Milera heroics not enough for Port
PORT Adelaide's Terry Milera's three goals couldn't help the Magpies overcome a fast-starting Claremont in Saturday's Foxtel Cup semi-final.
The Tigers kicked five goals to none in the opening term and withstood a surging Port which got within 11 points in the third term.
The busy Milera was among his side's best players in their 16-point loss. He was in fact the Magpies' sole multiple goal-scorer.
Sixth on the SANFL ladder, Port Adelaide turns its attention to fourth-placed Glenelg for its nextr game at its home base, Alberton Oval.
