YUENDUMU's Liam Jurrah returned to the Northern Territory in style last night, helping Melbourne hold off a determined Port Adelaide in Darwin.
Jurrah booted three goals in a second-quarter burst to stabilise the Demons after the Power bounced back from a poor first term, delighting family and friends watching on at Marrara Oval.
Melbourne led all night and won the game by 21 points, 17.11 (133) to 14.8 (92). It puts the Demons in ninth spot on the AFL ladder, mere percentage behind eighth-placed Essendon.
The game was Jurrah's first AFL match in the Territory since making his debut for Melbourne in 2009. It was his 32nd game for the Dees.
Jurrah received a huge cheer from the Territory crowd when he gathered his first possession a minute into the first term. He had two goal-assists in that quarter before his run of goals in the second to finish with 3.2 for the game from 11 possessions, and providing a show for the highlight reel.
Bennell bounces back
GOLD Coast midfielder Harley Bennell has put in yet another serviceable game on his return to the Suns' line-up on Saturday.
Bennell, in his second game back after a club-imposed exile on the sidelines, had 12 disposals in his side’s shock 12-point victory over Richmond, 12.13 (85) to 9.16 (70), at Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns.
It is the Suns' third win for the season.
Gold Coast's victory provided a memorable return to the Far North Queensland city for local products Jarrod Harbrow and Suns team-mate Rex Liddy.
