BLAZE WINNERS BUT HEAT LOSE SEASON OPENER

The Wagga Re/Max Blaze started the State League season in style with a comfortable 72 - 45 victory over Bathurst on Saturday night.  On the back of a 26 - 5 second quarter the Blaze cruised home, trying several different combinations in the second half as Coach Mullins sorts through his squad looking for the right mix.

Caren Hugo was awarded the "Coffee Break" MVP award with 22 points and a stack of rebounds and Michelle Edmanson scored 17 points as well.  The strong team effort shows that Coach Mullins has plenty of ammunition at his disposal this season and we look forward to another good showing on March 28 when they suit up at home against The Power at 4pm.

The Re/Max Heat would have been disappointed with their 84 - 70 loss to Griffith also at the Incinerator on Saturday.  The Heat only trailed by 3 points at 3/4 time and had plenty of chances to ice this game but fell away in the final 5 minutes.  There were plenty of new faces in the side and the experience they gained from Saturday night will need to be called on quickly as they look to re-group for a tough away game this weekend against the Queanbeyan Roadrunners.

Big man Ken Robertson won the "Coffee Break" MVP voucher for his 20 points and he was well supported by Aidan Adams with 16.

The Heat are on the road for a couple of weeks and will be looking win at least one of those games to boost their confidence before taking on Griffith again on April 17.
