SECRETARIAT OF THE PACIFIC REGIONAL PROGRAMME (SPREP)concludes there major Regional conference today the 20/11/09 which commenced on the 16/11/09. SSFa was excited to assit with the set as this is the very first time we have held a conference of this importance and magnitude in Gym 1 aside from all the concerts and sports events. SPREP have proviced positive feedback on the venue.

Judo Samoa, SSFA and the Government of Samoa are excited with the announcement of the Judo World Cup to be awarded to Samoa for 2010,2011 and 2012 based on a successful World Event recently held in Samoa from the 12-18 of November, 2009. this is great for Samoa overall especially in the wake of the Tsunami that hit Samoa on the 29th of September, 2009.

Funeral services for Tsunami victims were held at the Apia Park Stadium complex on Thursday, October 8th. The stadium was full to capacity with mourners, many of whom came from overseas to attend.

During the recent East Pacific Cricket Tournament held at the Tuana’imato main cricket field, Papua New Guinea became the East Asia Pacific's inaugural Twenty-20 champions.

The SIFA TAEKWONDO OPEN & SELECTIONS TOURNAMENT 2009 was recently held at the Apia Park Gym.

Not only has Judo Samoa won the bid to host the Judo world cup this coming November, but they have also won the right to have the Oceania Olympic Judo Training Centre built right here in Samoa.

In early September some of the under 19 teams came to the Samoa Aquatic Centre to do a recovery session at the pool. During that time it also included our very own Manu Samoa 7's

The Samoa Sports Facilities Authority has been working on making the dive pool at the Samoa Aquatic Centre open and available to the public. The pool is an IOC (International Olympic Committee) certified dive pool that is an excellent resource for the people of Samoa.

The end of August saw Samoa's annual Body Building Championships, hosted by the Samoa Bodybuilding Federation, being held at SSFA's Gym 1, Faleata venue.

On Friday, September 4th the final under 19's game was played in Apia Park Stadium's main field. The game begun with the noise from a very excited crowd being heard from afar. People on the streets wondered what all the fuss was about.

Recently, the Samoa International Cricket Association (SICA) held its Annual Cricket Education Courses with a record number of participants and many new faces at the Apia Park Gym.

Seeing a full Apia Park Stadium really does bring back the memories of attending the very popular Marist Games back in the 1990’s.

Recently, the St Peters Swimming Club arrived in Samoa from Brisbane, Australia. They came to Samoa for their winter training programme, in preparation for the World Swimming Championships in Rome later this year .

Representatives from the New Zealand Blind Cricket Team and Manukau South Sports Club visited Samoa during June to promote Blind Cricket in Samoa.

This week marks the beginning of a new year of high school athletics once more. After a year long hiatus, many schools are rearing to go for it. Many schools have already booked their time at the Apia Park Stadium for their school sports day. Thus far Samoa College have had their day on the field, along with Avele College.

The SSFA has a new Principal Accountant in Keneti Peseta. The new addition to the Finance Department was recently welcomed into the Finance area and has settled in very well.

In early June members of our SSFA Board made a visit to China & Singapore to visit their respective Olympic Venues and Sports Councils.

This Tuesday afternoon over 90 female rugby players converged on Apia Park to attend the first pre trials of the Manusina Rugby Team.

The British Amateur Rugby League Assn. (BARLA) side lost against the fast & fit Toa Samoa this past Saturday in yet another thrilling game to be played at Apia Park Stadium.

The Samoan Netball Association recently hosted the Oceania Pacific Netball Cup Series. This was the first time the series was hosted in Samoa and we were very proud that the SSFA could participate by providing an excellent venue for this series which was held at the Apia Park Netball Complex.

Thursday May 21st marked a milestone for the Samoa Hockey Association when Fa’amausili Taiva Ah Young signed the lease to take over management of the Tuana’imato Hockey Field.

Recently, the Asia Pacific Regional Manager for Special Olympics travelled to Samoa to conduct introductory workshops with locals involved with the Special Olympics.

On a sunny May Morning in Savaii, the village of Sagone welcomed the donation of a new English cricket pitch that was officially opened by the Honourable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Prime Minister of Samoa.

We continue to enjoy having schools utulise our facilities by booking the fields for their sports day activities.

Friday's game at Apia Park Stadium was an excellent game, with Upolu Samoa once again the winner in this part of the tournament. Well done Upolu Samoa, another great win -- Again!

The Fijian Barbarians were seen practicing at Apia Park on Wednesday afternoon and excellent form.

The association recently hosted a players workshop in Gym 1 for Samoa's national Touch Team, along with the Women's Touch team.

In-house Update: Its that time of the year again! the South Pacific Body Building Championships are looming up in September and our very own ACEO, Lufilufi Rasmussen has now begun training in earnest! She won her section last year, the novice section, and is hoping to win her new section this year also

Recently, on a very hot Thursday afternoon in early May, Apia Park hosted the Upolu Samoa Rugby Team and the Tongan team, the Tau'uta Reds.

Who knew that there were so many sailing enthusiasts in Samoa? Go down to the harbour on a Saturday morning and you will see a sea of sailing boats out on the water with enthusiastic sailors riding the waves.

This week on April 27th The Prime Minister the Honourable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Prime Minister of Samoa, who is also the President of the Faleata Lawn Bowls Club, signed the lease for the Bowling Club on behalf of the club membership and officially took over the lease for it's land & facilities.

While standing outside the Faleata Sports Gym 1, you could be forgiven for thinking the roof was coming down as the thunderous sound of 'Choohoo' emanated from the Gym. This was a 'slamin' night for hundreds of Savage fans who rapped the night away and chanted 'Stop Drop N Roll' along with Savage as he rapped out his rhymes last Friday night.

We have a couple of exciting projects in the pipeline that we feel will be of great benefit to the people of Samoa.

It is always encouraging to see schools holding sporting events and making the most of our facilities.

The office staff of the SSFA have gone on a 6 week in-house health challenge. The latest is that hey are making an effort to change their eating habits, are exercising more and many are even drinking up to 2 or more liters of water per day!

Both the Basketball and Volleyball Associations have now signed leases with the SSFA for Gym 2. This gives them both greater access to the Gym to further develop their sport and the chance train more. Welcome to these two groups and look forward to working with them in the coming years!

Rugby: Samoan Rugby has been using our Apia Park facility well this year with the recent Marist Sevens and the Tri Nations Tournaments being held there.

Both the Wrestling and Weightlifting Associations recently signed a 2 year lease for half of the Sports Centre Facility at Faleata. The wrestling folks are clearly proud to have the use of this facility and it was also timely with the hosting of the Oceania Wrestling Tournament.

2009 began with a bang; it was a busy month for the Samoa Sports Facilities Authority when they hosted a number of international events in the month of February.

We welcome The Samoa Softball Association who recently signed a new 5 year lease with the Samoa Sports Facilities Authority.

For the first time in the Pacific, SAMOA will stage the biggest concert of the year!
2009 will see "THE HEAT" feature Jamaica's NUMBER ONE tropical drum and bass artist Lukie D on the 20th and 21st of March, 2009. Tickets are available for $20 opposite SamoaTel on Beach Road in Apia.

Every year, Reef Shipping sponsors a Christmas Party for children with disabilities in Samoa, and this year was the best ever commented CEO of Lotu Taumafai, Leta'a Dan Devoe after a very successful day at the Samoa Aquatic Centre.

The Judo Association of Samoa (JAS)represented by President, Francois Martel, and Treasurer, Toshio Suzuki, signed an agreement this morning with SSFA to lease half of the Apia Park Gymnasium for a three year term.

Samoa was confirmed to host the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games at the Commonwealth Games General Assembly in Gambia late November 2008.

The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer of SSFA, Dr. Siaosi G. Salesulu (Rev).

From the 24th - 26th November, Samoa Aquatic Centre (SAC) staff, and SSFA supervisors underwent Emergency First Aid & CPR training with the Samoa Red Cross.

The Government of Samoa declared a compulsory half-day of sport & exercise for all government workers on Friday 21st November 2008 from 1pm - 5pm.
SSFA employees made the most of this time playing voleyball, while utilising Gymnasium #2.

President of the Oceania Squash Federation (OSF), Mr. Col. Clapper, has confirmed that Samoa will host the 2010 Oceania Squash Masters Championships, much to the delight of the Samoa Sports Facilities Authority.

Following the successful South Pacific Games in 2007, at which Samoa managed to win its first two medals in sailing, there has been a renewed interest in the sport.

The boats leased by SSFA to the Sailing Association are being put to good use and attracting a growing interest in the sport.

The SSFA are involved in half a dozen local sporting associations by entering teams in their business house tournaments & regattas, with the men's touch rugby team qualifying to become a part of one of four franchise teams...

SSFA has launched their first newsletter, an initiative that will assist SSFA in providing Government Departments, Sporting Associations and Clubs, and the wider Community of Samoa with updates on a bi-monthly basis.

SSFA had a booth at the NUS Marketing Day promoting a "Healthy Mind & Body" on Friday 24th October, 2008 to promote the world class Samoa Aquatic Centre.

Samoa's Women's Outrigger Development Squad competed in the American Samoa's 2008 Moso'oi Regatta on the 17th, and 18th of October winning every race competed in.

The Toa Samoa squad are making the most of popular SSFA venue, Apia Park for their final week of training before they depart for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

On Friday night, Rugby League Samoa Inc. hosted a farewell function for Toa Samoa bound for the Rugby League World Cup in Australia from 25 October — 22 November, 2008.

The function was held in the SSFA, Gymnasium #1, a popular venue for major sporting events as well as significant functions in Samoa.

Samoa's Commonwealth Youth Games team arrived home last night with four medals to show off; 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze.

The third Youth Commonwealth Games (for athletes between the ages of 16 an 18 years) was held from the 12th - 18th of October 2008 in Pune, India.

SSFA entered two teams in the 'Dash for a Prize' V6 paddling fun races down at Mulinu'u last night to encourage paddling, and to support Samoa's Women's Development Va'a Squad who are travelling to American Samoa next week for the Moso'oi races.

The 10th Annual South Pacific Bodybuilding Championships 2008 & Samoa Bodybuilding Federation National & Figure Invitational was held in Gymnasium #1, Faleata, SAMOA on SATURDAY 4th OCTOBER 2008.

SSFA's own Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Lufilufi Rasmussen was a competitor in the Samoa Novice Women's category.

On Thursday 28th August 2008, the Samoa Sports Facilties Authority (SSFA) and the Samoa Squash Rackets Association (SSRA) signed a landmark lease agreement which entailed that the squash courts located at Gymnasium 2, Faleata, will now be leased exclusively by the aforementioned.

Help! SSFA needs a logo. The picture of the Aquatic Centre was adapted by SSFA when it was established November 2007. SSFA is looking for a logo that best describes, illustrates and represents all Samoa, sports and our sports facilities. Closing Date: 2.00pm, 31st July 2008.

National Sports Associations such as Squash and Tennis have put forward proposals to SSFA for a possible lease for facilities.
