Naidoc Week Celebrations
Check out some of our amazing Redbacks family representing their culture during NAIDOC week. We are incredibly proud of our links to the Indigenous community and the incredible contribution they make to Redbacks basketball.
"Kwopidak Kenning Yok Group was formed by two local South Perth Yorgas Honey Webb and Vanessa Parker, due to their children’s passion to follow in their foot steps to learn and perform the Nyoongar ladies dances.
Honey and Vanessa who are members of Kwarbah Djookian have always been passionate in sharing culture through song and dance and love being members of the inspiring women’s dance group.
From this their children wanted to form their own Koolingahs dance group which has given them the opportunity to follow their own dreams and passion with their culture with the guidance of their mothers Honey and Vanessa.
Honey and Vanessa believe culture starts at home and should be given to the children and shared with the community. And that we all need to nurture confidence and identity in our children’s lives, especially being city Nyoongars, a strong sense of culture our language and sharing knowledge is important to our community and remembering where we come from and our tradition ways.
Kwopidak Kenning Yok means beautiful dancing girls and is a name that was given to the group by a local elder."
