Redbacks’ WABL Wrap

The Daimler Trucks’ Redbacks teams played their last Western Australian Basketball League qualifying round of fixtures at the home venue of Leisurelife Recreation Centre.

Under 12s player Angel Webb was the Redbacks’ highest individual scorer on the day with 34. D-League player Jess Jakens was the next individual highest women’s scorer with 25 while the under 14’s Emily Nixon and Laura Thompson scored 24 and 21 respectively, D-League’s Jess Hughes 18, under 15’s Abbey Thomas 17 and under 13’s Kajanda Ninyette 16.

Under 18 Jack Wagner was the highest individual scorer out of the men’s teams with 32 while the under 16’s Fraser Doyle had an impressive 29, D-League’s Tim Rendulic 24, under 15’s Bailey Wallam 21, under 18’s division one Jack Lowes 17 and under 14’s Jordan Herbert 16.

In a dramatic opening game the Redbacks’ under 12s’ women’s team had an exciting 59-58 win against the Cougars. Angel Webb top-scored for the Redbacks with 34 while Jessica Brunning scored 12, Latoyah Lawford nine and Tiana Rigden four. This was their second win of the year and sees them end up in fifth place in the Northern Conference.

The Redbacks under 12 men’s team lost 21 to 63. They have ended the season in fifth place in the six-team conference with three wins and 13 losses. Tariq Muturi top-scored with 10 while Shaquille Ninyette had three, Trent Moralee two, Ethan Vilardi two, Kobi Mitchell-Oehlers two, Ash Haemori one and Kai Haemori one.

The under 13 women’s team had a strong 58 to 30 win, which sees them qualify for the elimination final after ending in fourth conference place with seven wins and nine losses. Kajanda Ninyette top-scored with 16 while Abbey Chehad had 14, Kira Todd 13, Savahnah Nevill nine and Ella McCaughan six.

The under 13 men’s team lost to the Cougars 41 to 53. Timothy Komaiya top-scored with 10 while Izayah Riley had eight, Jack Lake seven, Luke Schonemann six, Lachlan Bertram five, Daniel Thai two, Jacob Wilmot and Ethan Bergersen one. They have qualified for the elimination final after finishing in fourth conference place with five wins and 11 losses.

The under 14 women’s team made the qualifying round final after finishing in second conference place with 12 wins and four losses following their 57 to 40 win over the Cougars. Emily Nixon top-scored with 24, Laura Thompson had 21, Shelby Foster six, Eloise Kon-Yu four and Nicola Kastropil two.

The under 14 men’s team went through the season with a 16-win no loss record after beating the Wolves 61 to 59. This sees them in top-position in the league and playing in the qualification-final. Jordan Herbert top-scored with 16 while Beau Tuccio had 12, Kyle Bowen 11, Luke Simonette 10, Jack Tognolini eight, Nick Biancuzzo two and Jordan Rigden two.

The under 15 women’s team lost 37 to 68. Abbey Thomas scored 17 while Angeleen Van Wees had 10, Emily Nixon six, Emma Bowen three and Tahlia McDonald one. This sees them in fifth conference place with one win and 15 losses.

The under 15 men had a narrow 55 to 58 loss. Bailey Wallam scored 21 while Aidan Lewins scored eight, Todd Nosworthy eight, Nazir Hashem seven, Mitchell Parker five, Reece Hewitt two, Joel Weir two and Lachlan Strelein two. They have ended in fifth conference place with five wins and 11 losses.

The under 16 women ended their season in sixth conference place with two wins and 12 losses after their 34 to 72 loss. Tayla Naudi and Teagan Verren both scored 10 while Clarice Antero had five, Jazlan Bearcroft four, Keziah Bin Sali three and Abbey Thomas two.

The under 16 men’s team had a strong 77 to 69 win over the Cougars. Fraser Doyle top-scored with 29 while Mark Santos had 14, Lucas Macente 12, Connor Jansen 10, Adam Parora eight, Jared Pedersen two and Max Whately two. They ended in fifth conference place with four wins and 12 losses.

The under 18 division two men’s team had a strong 71 to 58 win over the Cougars, which sees them end their season in sixth conference place with four wins and 11 losses. Matthew Biletic top-scored with 14 while James Gauvin had 12, Jonathon Warren 10, Jeremy Fletcher nine, Timothy Lewis eight, Rhys Miller seven, Julian Ramos five, Dion Street four and Jervey Maveric Sanson two.

The under 18 women’s team lost to the Cougars 21 to 81, which sees them end their season in sixth conference place. Maddison Galliott, Sam Tognolini, Claire Somers and Rebecca Sampson all scored four while Lucy Noll had three and Jillisa Walker two.

The under 18 division one men’s team lost 97 to 112. Jack Wagner top-scored with 32 while Jack Lowes had 17, Lattrell Matthews 13, Sean Jakens 13, Jarrett Donker nine, Frank Johnson seven and Kevin Tinayenda six. They have ended in sixth conference place with one win and 15 losses.

The under 20 men’s team ended their season in eighth place overall with one win and 13 losses after losing to the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 81 to 113. Luke Viskovich top-scored with 12 while Alex Jacobsen had 11, Joshua Hindle 10, Gavin Touzel nine, Ben Wedge nine, Ben Ellis eight, James Toncich six, Nemanja Spacic six, Hugh Collison five and Brad Hall five.

The D-League women’s team had a strong 71 to 60 win in their last qualifying round game before they play in this week’s elimination final. This sees them with a season record of 11 wins and five losses and in third conference place. Jess Jakens top-scored with 25 while Jess Hughes had 18, Kristy Goodall six, Lori Ashworth six, Natasha Ziino four, Emily Harris four, Natasha Nicholson three, Cat Tinley three, and Kristy Jedrzejewski two.

The D-League men’s team also had a strong 64 to 53 win in their last qualifying game for the year. This sees them qualifying for the elimination final this weekend after finishing in fourth conference place with eight wins and eight losses. Tim Rendulic top-scored with 24 while Jarrad Jackson scored 13, Jamieson Lewis 12, Steven Vigor eight, Jared Faint three, Lattrell Matthews two and Ben Lewis two.

Redbacks’ fans are called upon to come down to the WA Basketball Centre and the Willetton Basketball Stadium to support our teams in the first week of the playoff rounds this Sunday.

The Daimler Trucks under 13 men’s team meet the Wanneroo Wolves in their elimination final on court 7 of the WA Basketball Centre this Sunday at 8.30AM. A win will see them progress to the semi-final round, while a loss will see them out of the finals race.

The under 13 women’s team meets the Kalamunda Eastern Suns in their elimination final on court 7 at the WA Basketball Centre at 10.00AM this Sunday.

The under 14 women’s team meets the Perry Lakes Hawks in a qualifying final this Sunday on court 1 at 11.30AM at the WA Basketball Centre. A win will see them progress straight through to the Preliminary Final round, while a loss will see them play in the semi-final round.

The unbeaten under 14 men’s team meets the Wanneroo Wolves in their qualifying final this Sunday on court five at the WA Basketball Centre at 11.30AM.

The D-League men’s team plays the Perry Lakes Hawks at midday this Sunday at the Willetton Basketball Stadium in the elimination final.

The D-League women’s team also meets the Perry Lakes Hawks in an elimination final at the Willetton Basketball Stadium at 1.45PM.
