The Redback Men lost a thrilling game Saturday night against the Goldfields Giants in Kalgoorlie 96 to 97.

In a game in which the lead changed 23 times and the scores were tied on 17 occasions, the Redbacks were down by five with a minute to go whenshooting guard Ryan Neill hit a three-point shot to bring the gap down to two.

Straight out of a time out, following some great offensive execution, Joel Wagner then put in a lay-up with nine seconds to go to see the score level at 96 apiece.

On the following possession a loose-ball foul was called with four seconds remaining following a long offensive rebound by Lordan Franich.

As the Redbacks were in team fouls Franich then had two free-throws, hitting the second to see his team go up by one-point with just four-seconds left.

Wagner then drove the ball up the court, narrowly missing a last-chance ½ court shot that bounced off the ring.

Forward Adrian Majstrovich was the highest scorer for the Redbacks with 19.  Centre Shaun Bennison had 17 at 78% along with nine rebounds, Wagner had 16 along with 12 assists and Prior had 16 at 67%.

The loss sees the Redbacks’ men ties for third place in the 14-team competition with seven wins and three losses.

This Friday sees the return of the Redbacks’ women’s team when they play Lakeside Lightning at 6.30 PM at the Lakeside Recreation Centre, with the men’s game starting at 8.30 PM.

The Redbacks then play the Willetton Tigers on Saturday night in a home game fixture at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, with tip-off for the women’s game being 6PM and 8PM for the men’s game.
