Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks' WABL Wrap – Week Five

It was a tough day in the office for the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ WABL teams last Sunday with only one team winning out of 16 games against the Perry Lakes Hawks. This winning team was the under 14 men.

Under 20 men’s player Shaun Bartlett was the highest Redbacks’ scorer on the day with 25 points. Young-gun Samantha Tognolini from the under 15 women’s team was the highest female points scorer for the Redbacks with 23 points. Jeet Mann from the under 14 men’s team was the next highest overall scorer with 22 points.

Please note the individual player scores that follow are taken directly from the official WABL website www.wabl.asn.au. It is recognised some of these do not tally with the total team-score. This is as the individual player-tally’s are calculated after the completion of the game and sign-off of the score-sheet. In all instances where there is a variation the scoresheet prevails.

The under 12 men’s team lost 31 to 51. They had a good spread of scorers with Kyle Bowen having the highest tally on 14, Luke Simonette 8, Daniel Ong 4, Reece Hewitt 3 and Nicholas Pyne 2. They have yet to win a game in four tries and are currently fourth in the five-team Northern Conference.

The under 12 women’s team lost a thriller in extra time 20 to 25 after the scores were level at the end of normal time. They have yet to win a game in their five matches but are steadily showing solid improvement and are fifth in the six-team conference. Their scorers were Samantha Campbell 8, Chloe Smith 4 and Chloe Grant, Rhani Valentine, Caitlin Thacker and Sophie Pyne all with 2.

In a tight encounter the score in the under 13 men’s game was Redbacks 31 to the Hawks 43. The Redbacks now have a win/loss record of 2/3 and are in third place out of the five teams in their conference. Adam Parora top-scored with 10 while Stephen Pover had 8, Jordan Hands 6, Max Whatley 4 and Ibraham Soliman 3

The Redbacks lost 26 to 56 in the under 13 women’s game. Tayla Naudi top-scored with 5 while Talethia Valentine and Juliet Tucker both had 4 and Emerson Lambert, Amelia Khuu and Gabriella Pyne all had 2. Unfortunately the WABL website does not contain details of other Redbacks’ scores or scorers. The 13s women now have a season record of two wins and three losses and are third in the five-team conference.

The Redbacks’ Jeet Mann’s 22 points saw him as the game-high scorer in his under 14 men’s team 54 to 31 win against the Hawks. Other scorers included Matthew Biletic 9, Shaquille Maharaj 6, Sean Jakens 5, Dion Street 4, Jack Wagner 4 and Matthew Newell 2. They are now in third place in their six-team conference with three wins and two losses.

The Redbacks under 14 women’s team had a tough game against the Hawks going down 14 to 62. They have not yet recorded a win in their five games and are in fifth conference position. Sally Ann Mettam, Kyra Law, Michelle Curro, Alex Rough and Rebecca Sampson all scored 2 while Jessica Richardson and Juliet Ratima both scored 1.

Jarret Donker was the top-scorer for the Redbacks’ under 15 men’s team with 14 in their 60 to 84 loss to the Hawks. Other scorers included Alex Bevilaqua 10, Jacob Marr 6, Clint Jansen 4, Yoseph Soliman 2 and Lattrell Matthews 2. Again, the WABL website unfortunately does not contain details of other scores or scorers. This team now has two wins and three losses and is in fifth place in the six-team conference.

The under 15 women’s team has not yet won a game this year in their five attempts and are sixth in their conference. They lost last their game against the Hawks 39 to 84. Samantha Tognolini top-scored with 23 while Rachel Goodger had 6, Taylor Burtenshaw 2 and Blade Willison 2.

Despite a good spread of scorers with Luke Fletcher getting 16, Liam Briggs 10, Connor Kelly 10, Domenic Romeo 6, Jake Staunton 4 and Matthew Ramanah 3 the under 16 men’s team lost 49 to 93. They have not yet won a game in their five matches and are in sixth conference place.

The under 16 women’s team lost 43 to 65. Scorer’s for the Redbacks were Kristie Hawes 10, Natasha Ziino 9, Caitln Largue 7, Jessica Hughes 5, Bianca Parora 4, Lori Ashworth 4, Abbey Harris 2 and Sophie Mackin 2. They are now in fourth conference place out of six teams with three wins and two losses.

The under 18 division two men’s team lost in a tight encounter 43 to 51. Scott Sampson top scored with 15 while Mark Elliott had 10, Bradley Hall 5, Giorgio Milio 4, Brad Smeaton 3 and Raphael Bianchini, Josh Hindle and Jonathan Birkett all had 2. They are unlucky in not having yet recorded a win in their four games this year and are currently in sixth conference place.

The under 18 women’s team lost 56 to 78. The official WABL tallies are clearly inaccurate so the recorded scores that follow are only a very rough guide. This has Gabby O’Sullivan as the top-scorer with 9, Carlie Richardson 6, Lori Ashworth 4 and Caris Dinardo and Jessia Jakens both scoring 2. The team is now in fifth conference place out of six teams with one win and four losses.

The under 20 men’s team had a good spread of scorers with Shaun Bartlett the game-high scorer on 25, Geordie Murray had 17, Joshua Guppy 12, Jordan Ah Chee 4, Ryan Vincent 3 and Travis Thornley 1. However, this combined tally of 62 was not sufficient to beat the Hawks score of 83. They now have a season record of one win and four losses and are in ninth place out of the nine-teams in this age group.

The Redbacks’ Development League men’s team sustained its first loss of the year in their battle for top-conference against the Hawks with a tight score-line of 52/58. They now have a season record of four wins and one loss and are third in the six-team conference. Michael Vigor top-scored with 17 while Dale Elliot and Ashley Stephens both had 8, Reece Dempster 7, Jarrad Jackson 6 and Tim Rendulic 4.

The Redbacks’ Women’s Development League team had their first loss of the year as well with a 42 to 70 loss to the Hawks. This too was a game between the two top teams in the conference. Monique Kickett top-scored with 11 while Frances Clarke had 10, Alix Hayward 6, Gabby O'Sullivan 6, Kristy Jedrzejewski 5, Katarina Ualkovic 3 and Catherine Tinley 1. They now have a season record of four wins and one loss and are in second conference place out of six-teams.

The WABL action returns to the Redbacks’ home stadium at Leisurelife Recreation Centre, 34 Kent Street East Victoria Park this Sunday (6 June) for all of teams. The opponents are the East Perth Eagles in all age groups except for the under 20s, who are playing the Lakeside Lightning. The timetable for individual games can be found at the above-mentioned WABL website of www.wabl.asn.au.

Good luck to all teams and we look forward to seeing more of you on the winning podium!!!
