Yesterday saw two Perth Redbacks teams compete in the WABL Grand Finals at Perry Lakes Stadium. A very good turn out of support for both teams was greatly appreciated by the players and coaches. Unfortunatly neither team could get over the line in their game, but both put up very good fights.
The Under 21 Women lost to the Willetton Tigers 49-64. The Redbacks started slowly out of the blocks but came back strong in the second half of the game. The slow start was very costly in the end as the Tigers ran out with the game by 15 points. Regardless of this result the women on this team have represented the club proudly and have done an outstanding job all season. Thanks must go to all of the players and coaching staff who have put in a lot of hard work all season.
The Division 1 Mens side also fell at their last hurdle against the 2006 SBL Champions, the Lakeside Lightning. The Redbacks had trouble scoring throughout the game which proved costly. The final score line saw the Lightning take the game out 61-51. These boys have also put in a huge amount of work through the SBL pre-seaosn as well as training every week with the SBL team. They have represented the club proud and have had a great season.
We would like to thank all of our teams from the Under 12 Development Squads right through to our Division 1 teams for their hard work and dedication throughout the 2006 WABL Season. Your hard work on and off the basketball court is part of what makes the club a success. We must also thank the 2006 WABL Committee and all of the coaches and managers and all other people behind the scenes. These are the people that ensure these teams can get onto the court each and every game. We look forward to seeing you all back for a bigger and better 2007 WABL Season.
