Nix departs Redbacks for 2019

The Perth Basketball Association have recently been advised by 2018 WSBL Head Coach Charles Nix that he will be departing the club for the 2019 season.

Despite planning for 2019 having commenced and Nix being part of our planning, the club was recently advised of his desire to look at potential options elsewhere. Unfortunately throughout this process it became clear that, despite the teams on-court success, we were unable to align in certain areas off-court.

Nix, the 2017 MSBL Coach of the Year was recruited from the Slammers to lead the WSBL program to new heights in 2018. Led by a strong core local group, Nix was able to recruit Lynx standout Kayla Standish and new Adelaide Lightning recruit Mikayla Pirini along with import Makailah Dyer.

After an outstanding season, the team made it through to the WSBL Semi-Finals and lost two games by just a single point each to the Mandurah Magic.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed having Charles a part of our program this year. The team has developed incredibly well and we are thankful for his efforts with the team" said Redbacks General Manager Christian Rice.

"Obviously we are disappointed with his decision to leave at this stage, however the club will now look forward and we wish Charles and his family all the best."

"We are committed to continuing the development of this team and finding a coach closely aligned to our whole of club vision for the next 3-5 years."

The club will begin the search for a replacement immediately with applications opening in the coming days.
