Redbacks Outflash Lightning

The Perth Redbacks Men’s and Women’s State Basketball League teams completed impressive away-game wins against Lakeside Lightning.

The Redbacks’ Men came back strongly after being 17 points down in the second half to record a fighting 107-104 win.

New Redbacks’ import player Marshall Brown scored a massive 48 points at a field goal percentage of 55 along with seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Fellow import player Ray Turner put in 24 points at 46% and had 14 rebounds, while guard Adam Johnston scored 15 at 56%.

The win sees the Redbacks’ men in 11th place in the 14-team competition with one win and one loss.

The Redbacks’ women dominated Lightning, who played in last year's grand final, 68 to 36 to record their first win of the year under the stewardship of new coach Keith Horwood.

Guard Gabby Clayton top-scored for the Redbacks with 15 points at 29% along with a massive five steals, six rebounds and two assists.

Forward Lauren Hall was their next highest scorer with 14 points along with 11 rebounds while fellow-forward Jess Jakens scored 13 and had six rebounds.

The win sees the Redbacks’ Women’s team with one win and one loss and in seventh-place in the 12-team competition.

The action continues on Sunday when the Redbacks’ Men’s team takes on last year’s grand finalists the Geraldton Buccaneers at the Curtin University Stadium at midday.
