WABL Wrap Round Six

The Daimler Trucks’ Redbacks Western Australian Basketball League teams played the Lakeside Lightning in a home-game round at the Leisurelife Recreation Centre East Victoria Park.

The coaches’ awards to the women’s teams were presented to under 12s Jessica Brunning and Angel Webb, under 13s Savahna Nevill and Ella McCaughan, under 14s Emily Nixon and Lauren Thompson, under 15s Chloe Smith, under 16s Teagan Verren and under 18s Rebecca Sampson.

The coaches’ awards to the men’s teams were made to the under 12s Tariq Muturi and Nick Romero, under 13s Tim Komaiya and Tyrone Van Wees, under 14s Nicholas Biancuzzo and Jordon Herbert, under 15s Nazir Hashem, under 16s Connor Jansen, under 18 Division One’s Sean Jakens and under 18 Division twos Julia Ramos.

All award-winners and their parents will be invited to attend the next State Basketball League home-game for the Redbacks against the East Perth Eagles at Belmont Oasis, with the women’s game starting at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.

The under 12s men’s team lost to Lightning 29 to 64. Kaim Haemori scored five, Tariq Muturi 11, Trent Moralee two, Ethan Vilardi two, Jayden Yang four, Kobi Mitchell-Oehlers one and Noah Prosser four. They have one win and five losses and are in fifth place in the six-team conference.

The under 12 girls lost 14-43. Jessica Brunning scored eight points, Latoyah Lawford four and Angel Webb had two. They are now in fifth place out of a five team conference with one win and five losses.

The under 13 men’s team are in sixth conference place with one win and five losses after their narrow 38 to 41 loss to the Lightning. Benjamin Goard scored four, Jacob Wilmot two, Luke Schonemann one, Timothy Komaiya 18, Izayah Riley seven and Jack Lake six.

The under 13 women’s team had a strong 53 to 21 win. Ella McCaughan scored seven, Abbey Chehab five, Estella Penny two, Kira Todd two, Elly Best nine, Kajanda Ninyette 24 and Savahna Nevill four. They are now in fourth conference place out of six-teams with two wins and four losses.

The under 14 men’s team remains on top of the six-team conference with six wins and no losses after their dramatic 43 to 42 win over Lightning. This is their third one-point win this season. Beau Tuccio scored one, Luke Simonette four, Joshua Armstrong two, Nicholas Biancuzzo five, Jordan Rigden three, Jack Tognolini two, Kyle Bowen two and Jordan Herbert 23.

The under 14 women had a strong 61 to 29 win, which sees them in second conference place out of six teams with five wins and one loss. Chloe Wrigley scored four, Eloise Kon-Yu two, Nicola Katropil one, Sophie Pyne two, Noor Soliman one, Melissa Hughes four, Alessia Arcaro-Humphreys eight, Shelby foster two, Emily Nixon 23 and Lauren Thompson 14.

The Redbacks’ under 15s lost to Lightning 37 to 61. They now have two wins and four losses and are in fifth conference place out of six-teams. Reece Hewitt had five, Todd Nosworthy four, Nazir Hashem 12, Lachlan Strelein two, Bailey Wallam 12 and Aidan Lewins two.

The under 15 women lost 32 to 71. Chloe Smith scored eight, Melissa Hughes six, Abbey Thomas two, Emily Nixon 13 and Emma Bowen three. They are in fourth conference place out of six-teams with one win and five losses.

The under 16 men are in fifth conference place with two wins and four losses after going down to Lightning 55 to 65. Fraser Doyle scored 20, Jared Pedersen two, Connor Jansen 11, Mark Santos two, Bradley Clarke six, Adam Parora 10 and Lucas Macente four.

The under 16 women’s team had their first win of the year after beating Lightning 81 to 56. This sees them with one win and four losses and in fourth conference place. Chloe Smith scored three, Abbey Thomas two, Teagan Verren 19, Keziah Bin Sali 15, Clarice Antero three, Shannon Street a game-high 35, Tayla Naudi two and Samantha Brunning two.

The under 18 Division Two team lost 46 to 64. Julian Ramos had four, Dion Street two, Jonathan Waren one, Rhys Miller 10, Matthew Biletic seven, Jervey Maveric Sanson 12, Jeremy Fletcher four, Timothy Lewis two and James Gauvin four. They have no wins and five losses and are in fifth conference place.

The under 18 Division One team had their first win of the year after beating Lightning 86 to 82. They are in fifth conference place out of six-teams with one win and five losses. Jeet Mann scored three, Jarrett Donker 10, Sean Jakens four, Frank Johnson nine, Kevin Tinayenda 15, Corey Murray two, Jack Wagner 10, Lattrell Matthews 27 and Jack Lowes six.

The under 18 women’s team lost 42 to 73. Maddison Galliott scored four, Sam Tognolini 16, Lucy Noll two, Breanna Godson two, Claire Somers two, Michelle Curro seven, Shanell Ascoli five, Emily Hughes two and Rebecca Sampson two. They are in sixth conference place with no wins and six losses.

The under 20 men lost to the Wanneroo Wolves 51 to 112 at the Joondalup Stadium. They are in eighth place on the ladder with no wins and five losses. Samuel Watts scored 10, Andrew Harman nine, Ben Ironmonger 16, James Walter 12, Brendan Tuck 18, Jordan Wellstead 25, Jay Thwaites 10, Anthony Neivandt nine and Jayden Abduramanoski three.

The D-League men’s team is in third conference place out of six-teams with three wins and three losses after their 65 to 95 loss. Lattrell Matthews scored eight, Jared Faint 12, Steven Vigor 11, Tim Rendulic 17, Ben Ellis six and Jamieson Lewis 11.

The D-League women’s team remains in top conference place out of six teams with five wins and one loss after their 65 to 55 win. Natasha Ziino had 14, Sam Tognolini eight, Jessica Jakens 21, Emily Harris four, Lori Ashworth seven and Alix Hayward 11.

The top-scorers for the men were under 18 Division One player Lattrell Matthews with 27, under 20 Jordan Wellstead 25, under 18 Jordan Herbert 23, under 16 Fraser Doyle 20 and under 13 Tim Komaiya 18.

Under 16 women’s player Shannon Street was the highest overall scorer for the Redbacks with 35 while under 13 Kajanda Ninyette had 24, under 14 Emily Nixon 23, under 16 Teagan Verren 19 and under 14 Lauren Thompson 14.

The WABL action continues this Sunday when the Daimler Truck Redbacks taken on the Stirling Senators at the Warwick Recreation Centre. Individual game-times can be accessed via www.wabl.asn.au and following the drop-down menu for fixtures/results.
