Redbacks Lose State Basketball League Double

Bank of Queensland Redbacks’ men’s and women’s State Basketball League teams both lost in their home games against the Cockburn Cougars by three points.

The Redbacks’ men’s team lost 89 to 92 which, in the highly volatile competition, sees them drop from fourth to eighth place out of 14 teams with 10 wins and eight losses.

Swing-man Bennie Lewis top-scored for the Redbacks with 24 along with five rebounds and three assists, while point-guard Adam Johnston was their next highest scorer with 17 along with six assists.

Centre Justin Brown scored 16 and had six rebounds and shooting guard Jarrad Prior had 14 along with nine rebounds and three steals.

The Bank of Queensland women’s team went down 68 to 71.

Centre Marita Payne was their highest scorer with 17 along with eight rebounds while forward Tarsha Fletcher was their next highest scorer with 16.

In her final game in 2013 point-guard Rachel Lisch scored 10 and had five rebounds, five assists and two steals while Kerise Delcoure celebrated her 200th game with five points, two rebounds and one assist.

The loss sees the Redbacks’ women drop one place down the ladder to 10th in the 12-team competition with six wins and nine losses.

The State Basketball League action continues this Saturday when the Bank of Queensland Redbacks takes on the Wanneroo Wolves in what will be vital clashes in the run to the finals at the Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Tip-off for the women’s game is at 6PM and 8PM for the men’s game.
