Redbacks’ WABL Wrap Round Five

The Daimler Trucks Redbacks’ under 14 men’s team remains the only unbeaten Redbacks’ Western Australian Basketball team following their dramatic one-point win over the Perry Lakes Hawks. This was after the previously unbeaten under 14 women’s team lost by just one-point and the Development League Women’s team lost by five in overtime.

The following players were selected by their coaches with the  Western Australian Basketball League award winners:

Women - udner 12 Latoya Langford, under 13 Kajanda Ninyette, under 14 Noor Soliman, under 15 Emma Bowen, under 16 Shannon Street and under 18 Maddi Galliott

Men - under 12 Kai Haemori, under 13 Tim Komaiya, under 14 Jack Tognolini, unde 15 Todd Nosworthy, under 16 Lucas Macente, under 18 division one Jack Lowes, under 18 division two Jeremy Fletcher.

Award winners and their parents/guardians will be entitled to free entry at this Friday's State Basketball League game between the Bank of Queensland Redbacks and the Cockburn Cougars.

The Hawks beat the Daimler Trucks Redbacks under 12s team 61 to 38. Jayden Yang scored six, Mitchell Nixon two, Kai Haemori 14, Tariq Mutura five, Shaquille Ninyette four and Trent Moralee seven. They now have one win and four losses and are in fifth place out of six teams in the Northern Conference.

The under 12 women’s team lost 22 to 85, which sees them in fifth conference place with one win and four losses. Tiana Rigden scored two, Angel Webb 13, Jessica Brunning two and Latoyah Lawford five.

The under 13 men lost 30 to 63. Daniel Thai scored two, Tyrone Van Wees four, Luke Schonemann six, Timothy Komaiya 10, Jack Lake two, Nguyen Dong two and Jacob Wilmot four. They are in sixth conference place with one win and four losses.

The under 13 women’s team is in fifth conference place out of six teams with one win and four losses after their 27 to 56 loss. Estella Penny scored four, Kira Todd three, Elly Best two, Kajanda Ninyette seven, Savahna Nevill seven, Ella McCaughan two and Abbey Chehab two.

The under 14 men’s team is in top conference place out of six teams with five wins and no losses after their 34 to 33 win over their arch-rivals the Perry Lakes Hawks. Jack Tognolini scored four, Kyle Bowen six, Jordan Herbert 11, Beau Tuccio 11 and Luke Simonette two.

The under 14 women’s team’s unbeaten record was broken after losing in a heartbreaking encounter by just one, 36 to 37.   This sees them in second conference place with four wins and one loss. Alessia Arcaro-Humphreys scored two, Shelby Foster four, Emily Nixon 10, Lauren Thompson 10, Chloe Wrigley three, Nicola Kastropil one and Sophie Pyne two.

The Daimler Trucks under 15 men’s team had a strong 64 to 53 win over the Hawks, which sees them in fifth conference place out of six teams with two wins and three losses. Bailey Wallam scored 11, Nicholas Pyne one, Aidan Lewins four, Reece Hewitt 14, Todd Nosworthy five, Nazir Hashem 25 and Lachlan Strelein four.

The under 15 women’s team lost 32 to 68. Emily Nixon scored five, Emma Bowen three, Chloe Smith 15, Rachel Warren two, Abbey Thomas two and Angeleen Van Wees five. They are in fourth conference place out of six teams with one win and four losses.

The under 16 men lost 51 to 63, which sees them with two wins and three losses and in fourth conference place out of six teams. Mark Santos scored three, Bradley Clarke two, Ibraham Soliman two, Adam Parora six, Lucas Macente seven, Christopher Lee eight, Fraser Doyle 14, Jared Pedersen three and Connor Jansen six.

The under 16 women’s team lost 46 to 105. Keziah Bin Sali scored 12, Shannon Street 16, Emily Nixon eight, Tayla Naudi two, Samantha Brunning two and Teagan Verren four. They are now fourth in the five team conference with no wins and four losses.

The under 18 Division One men’s teams results were not uploaded on the Western Australian Basketball League website at the time of preparing this article.

The under 18 Division Two men’s team lost 38 to 64. Jervey Sanson scored 14, Fraser rose two, Jeremy Fletcher eight, James Gauvin four, Dion Street two, Jonathan Warren two and Rhys Miller six. They are in sixth conference place with no wins and four losses.

The under 18 women are now in sixth conference place after six rounds, following their 50 to 70 loss to the Hawks. Michelle Curro had five, Rebecca Sampson six, Jillisa Walker five, Maddison Galliott 11, Samantha Tognolini eight, Lucy Noll eight, Breanna Goodson five and Claire Somers two.

The Daimler Trucks under 20 men’s team is in eighth overall place with no wins and four losses. This followed their 45 to 55 loss to the Stirling Senators. Logan Viskovich scored 12, Bradley Hall five, Joshua Hindle 16, James Toncich four, Nemanja Spasic six and Benjamin Wedge two.

The result for the D-League men’s team game was not uploaded on the Western Australian Basketball League website at the time of preparing this article.

Despite the D-League women’s team’s 70 to 75 overtime loss to the Hawks they still remain in top conference place out of six teams with four wins and one loss. Jessica Jakens had 10, Emily Harris six, Lori Ashworth five, Alix Hayward 18, Catherine Tinley nine, Natasha Ziino seven and Nadia Italiano seven.

Under 15 men’s team player Nazir Hashem recorded the highest individual score of the day out of the Redbacks’ players with 25. Under 20 Joshua Hindle was the next highest out of the men’s teams with 16 while under 12 Kai Haemori, under 16 Fraser Doyle and under 18 division two Jervey Sanson all scored 14 each.

Under 16 Shannon Street was the highest individual scorer out of the Redbacks’ women’s teams with 16 while under 15 Chloe Smith scored 15, under 13 Angel Webb 13, under 16 Keziah Bin Sali 12 and under 18 Maddison Galliott 11.

The Daimler Trucks’ Redbacks’ WABL teams return to the home-game venue of Leisurelife Recreation Centre on Sunday 16th June when they take on the Lakeside Lightning. Individual game times can be obtained via the website www.wabl.asn.au and following the drop-down menu for fixtures/results.  There is a general bye on Sunday 9th June because of the international game between Australia and China.
