Redbacks’ Western Australian Basketball League Wrap Round Two

In a ‘tough day at the office’ the Daimler Trucks’ Redbacks’ Western Australian Basketball League teams had three wins and 13 losses in the home-game round at Leisurelife on Sunday.

However, both the under 14 men's and women's teams are in top-place of the Northern Conference after winning both of their opening round games.

The under 12 men’s team lost to the Wanneroo Wolves 38 to 47. Jayden Yang scored 12, Brendan Herbert three, Ash Haemori five, Kai Haemori 14 while Tariq Muturi and Shaquille Ninyette both scored two. They now have one win and one loss and are fifth in the six-team Northern Conference.

The under 12 women’s team lost 29 to 77, which sees them with no wins after two rounds and in fifth-place in the five-team conference. Latoyah Lawford scored 16, Angel Webb 12 and Jessica Brunning one.

The under 13 men lost 32 to 42. Daniel Tahi scored four, Tyrone Van Wees two, Luke Schonemann 14, Timothy Komaiya four and Jack Lake eight. They are currently on no wins and two losses and in sixth conference place.

The under 13 girls lost 27 to 48, which sees them in fifth place in the six-team conference with one win and one loss. Estella Penny scored two, Kira Todd eight, Elly Best two, Kajanda Ninyette two, Savahna Nevill three, Milla Ragless one, Ella Mccaughan four and Abbey Chehab five.

The under 14 men’s team had a dramatic 56 to 55 win over the Wolves, who were the 2012 grand-final winners. They are now in first place in their six-team conference with two wins and no losses. Kyle Bowen scored 11, Jordan Herbert 13, Orgil Battogtokh 10, Beau Tuccio 18 and Joshua Armstrong two.

The under 14 women’s team won 60 to 41. Melissa Hughes scored seven, Alessia Arcaro-Humphreys eight, Shelby Foster four, Emily Nixon four, Lauren Thompson 20, Chloe Wrigley 10, Nicola Kastropil three, Sophie Pyne three and Noor Soliman one. They now have two wins and no losses and are top in their six-team conference.

The under 15 men’s team went down to the Wolves 40 to 46 in a tight encounter. Arden Dicker-Longton scored three, Bailey Wallam seven, Nicholas Pyne two, Aidan Lewins five, Samuel Oishi-Govindasamy two, Joel Weir four, Todd Nosworthy four, Nazir Hashem 12 and Lachlan Strelein one. They are sixth in their six-team conference with no wins and two losses.

The under 15 women’s team lost 27 to 106, which sees them in sixth-conference place with no wins and two losses. Emma Bowen scored two, Rosemary Brunning two, Chloe Smith 15, Warren Rachel two and Abbey Thomas six.

The under 16 men’s team lost 51 to 83, which sees them in sixth conference place with no wins and two losses. Mark Santos had four, Ibraham Soliman three, Adam Parora 10, Lucas Macente three, Fraser Doyle 12, Jared Pedersen three, Max Whately six and Connor Jansen 10.

The under 16 women lost 39 to 49 in what was a tight encounter. Keziah Bin Sali scored eight, Clarice Antero four, Shannon Street 12, Sarah Duku five, Tayla Naudi two, Samantha Brunning two and Teagan Verren six. They now have no wins and two losses and are in fifth conference place out of six-teams.

The under 18 Division Two men’s team lost 67 to 77. They are now in sixth-place in the six-team conference. Matthew Biletic scored four, Timothy Lewis eight, James Gauvin 17, Jonathan Warren six, Rhys Miller seven and Fraser Rose seven.

The Redbacks’ women’s under 18s team lost in a one-point thriller 45 to 46. Michelle Curro scored nine, Shanell Ascoli two, Rebecca Sampson three, Jillisa Walker four, Maddison Galliott five, Sam Tognolini 11, Lucy Noll four and Breanna Goodson seven. They now have no wins and two losses and are in sixth conference place.

The under 18 Division One men lost 52 to 97. Jacob Marr scored two, Jack Wagner three, Lattrell Matthews 23, Jack Lowes three, Jarrett Donker 10, Sean Jakens four, Frank Johnson five and Kevin Tinayenda two. They have no wins and two losses and are in fifth-conference place out of six teams.

The under 20 men played Lakeside Lightning and lost 64 to 69 in a tight encounter. Logan Viskovich scored seven, Gavin Touzel eight, Bradley Hall 19, Ben Ellis 12, James Toncich five, Nemanja Spasic two, Alex Jacobsen five and Benjamin Wedge six. They are in seventh place out of eight teams with no wins and two losses.

The D-League women’s team won against the Wolves 55 to 47. They now have two wins and no losses and are in second conference place out of six teams. Jess Jakens scored 20, Lori Ashworth two, Alix Hayward seven, Natasha Nicholson eight, Jess Hughes 10, Natasha Ziino four and Kristy Goodall four.

The D-League men lost 70 to 77, which sees them with one win and one loss and in fourth conference place out of six teams. Ben Ellis had two, Jamieson Lewis 29, Jared Faint 16, Steven Vigor six, Tim Rendulic 12 and James Jackson two.

The top Daimler Trucks’ Redbacks’ scorers from the women’s Western Australian Basketball League teams were under 14 Lauren Thompson with 20, D-League Jess Jakens with 20, under 12 Latoyah Lawford with 16, under 15 Chloe Smith with 15, while under 16 Shannon Street and under 12 Angel Webb both had 12.

The top Daimler Trucks’ Redbacks’ scorers from the men’s Western Australian Basketball League teams were D-League player Jamieson Lewis with 29, under 18 Division One Lattrell Matthews with 23, under 20 Brad Hall with 19, under 14 Beau Tuccio with 18 and the under 18 Division 2’s James Gauvin with 1.

Round three of the Western Australian Basketball League action continues this Sunday when the Redbacks meet the Kalamunda Eastern Suns in an away-game at the Ray Owen Recreation Centre, Gladys Road Lesmurdie.
