BOQ Redbacks’ Split Ledger against Magic

The BOQ Redbacks’ State Basketball League team split the ledger in their home-games against Mandurah Magic at Belmont Oasis.

The Redbacks’ women’s team had a strong 57 to 44 win against Magic.

In a dominant performance centre Marita Payne top-scored for the Redbacks with 19 along with 18 rebounds.

Forward Jess Jakens scored 11 along with three steals and four rebounds while point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan scored 10 and had three steals.

The BOQ Redbacks women now have three wins and five losses and are in ninth-place in the 12-team competition.

In a game in which the lead changed 13 times, the Redbacks’ men had a heartbreaking one point 94 to 95 loss in overtime against the Magic after the game was tied 88 apiece at the end of regular time.

Centre Justin Brown top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 along with 21 rebounds.

Shooting-guard Jarrad Prior scored 20 and had two steals while point-guard Adam Johnston had 19 along with six assists and six rebounds.

The BOQ Redbacks’ men now have six wins and four losses and are in fifth place in the 14-team competition.

They will be looking forward to the return of former National Basketball League players Joel Wagner and Michael Vigor for this Friday’s game, when they take on the top-placed Lakeside Lightning at Belmont Oasis at 8.30PM.

This game is preceded by the women’s game between the Redbacks and Lightning, which tips off at 6.30PM.

Both teams then travel to the Ray Owen Recreation Centre in Lesmurdie to take on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday with the women’s game tipping off at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
