Final Weekend of State Basketball Championships

The Perth Redbacks had teams in the under 14s, under 17s and under 19s competitions in the State Basketball Championships played last weekend at the WA Basketball Centre.

The under 14 men's Division 2 side, that comprised the under 13 players from the recent victorious State Championship side, narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot after finishing third in the six-team conference despite their three win-two loss record. 

They beat the Stirling Senators 47 to 24, Country Cup side 28 to 26 and Lakeside Lightning 21 to 17. 

They had narrow losses to the Perry Lakes Hawks 14 to 15 and the Wanneroo Wolves Green 23 to 27

The under 14 men's Division One team had one win and four losses and ended 4th in the five-team conference. 

They beat the Wanneroo Wolves 26 to 20 and lost to the Stirling Senators 24 to 46, Willetton Tigers 26 to 40 and Lakeside Lightning 11 to 33.

The under 14 women's team had an 11 to 28 loss to the Geraldton Amatuer Basketball Association, nine to 37 loss to the Willetton Tigers, 10 to 32 loss to the Kalamunda Eastern Suns and 17 to 35 loss to the Perry Lakes Hawks.

They ended in 5th place in their conference.

The under 17 men’s team ended the weekend with two wins and three losses and were unlucky to end up in fifth place in the six-team conference after three narrow losses.

They had a 46 to 33 win against the Albany Basketball Association and lost 26 to 30 to the Lakeside Lightning, 25 to 51 to the Wanner Wolves, 35 to 36 to the 18s WA Country side and Redbacks 42 Cougars 36

The under 19 men’s team had a 62 to 40 win against the Rockingham Flames and lost 22 to 25 to the Bunbury Slammers, 19 to 25 to the Stirling Senators, 25 to 35 to the Perry Lakes Hawks and eight to 34 to the Lakeside Lightning.

They ended up in fifth-place in the six-team conference with one win and four losses.

The under 19 women’s team had came fourth in their four-team conference.

They lost to the Senators 24 to 44, Hawks nine to 29, Tigers 29 to 48 and Senators 27 to 33.
