Redbacks beat Grand Finalist

The Perth Redbacks’ men’s State Basketball League team had a stunning 110 to 94 home-game win against 2011 grand finalist the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Redbacks’ forward Adrian Majstrovich was the game-high scorer with 26 at a field goal percentage of 53 along with nine rebounds.

Shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored an efficient 19 off just 10 shots at 70% while centre Michael Vigor continued his strong early season form with 16 points at 62% along with 14 rebounds, four steals and three assists.

The Redbacks’ women’s team overcame the Hawks to win 57 to 43.

Centre Marita Payne top-scored for the Redbacks with 12 at 60% along with 12 rebounds and five blocked shots while forward Jessica Jakens scored nine along with five rebounds.

In a tough, physical encounter the Redbacks’ men then lost their away-game against the2011 grand final winners the Wanneroo Wolves, 94 to 104.

Vigor was their highest scorer with 27 at 62% and 11 rebounds while forward Blake Bender scored 15 at 55% along with 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The Redbacks’ women also lost to the Wolves 56 to 60.

Payne was the game-high scorer with 16 at 57% along with 10 rebounds and four blocked shots while shooting guard Stephanie Sauter had 15 at 55% along with two steals.

At the end of round two both the Redbacks’ men’s and women’s teams have had a solid start to the season, each having three wins and one loss.

The men’s team is in third-place in the 14-team competition while the women’s team is in fifth-place in the 12-team competition.

This Saturday the Redbacks play the Mandurah Magic in a home-game fixture at the Belmont Oasis Leisure and Aquatic Centre,with the women’s game starting at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
