Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks' WABL Wrap Round Two

The Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ Western Australian Basketball League teams had a strong home-game round against the East Perth Eagles, winning nine of 11 games.

Under 12 women’s team young-gun Emily Nixon was the highest scorer on the day for all of the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks with a strong 40 points. Michael Vigor was next highest overall scorer with 36 while Giordano Monteleone had 26.

The under 12 Redbacks’ women’s team won 76 to 14. They now have a season record of one win and one loss and are in third place in the five-team conference. As mentioned Emily Nixon had 40 while Lauren Thompson had 16, Melissa Hughes eight, Nicola Kastropil four and Noor Soliman two.

The under 12 Redbacks’ men had a strong 71 to 12 win over the Eagles. All players scored for the Redbacks with Kyle Bowen being their top-scorer with 17 while Jordan Herbert had 16, Luke Simonette 11, Nicholas Romero and Luke Waterton six each, Zac Tognolini four, Nicholas Parker two, Izaayah Riley two, Joshua Armstrong two and Nick Biancuzzo one. They are in third place in the six-team northern conference with one win and one loss.

The under 13 men won 54 to 45 in a tight encounter. Ryan Bride and Reece Hewitt both top-scored with 12 while Aidan Lewins had 10, Todd Nosworthy four, Nazir Hashem four, Nicholas Pyne four, Mitchell Parker three, and Jack Collard two. They now have one win and one loss and are in fifth place in the six-team conference.

The Redbacks’ under 14 men won 48 to 39, which sees them with a season record of two wins and no losses and in second place in the six-team conference. Zac Huxley scored eight while Jared Pedersen and Adam Parora both had six, Andrew Rich five, Daniel Skelton four, Nicholas Ramsay three, Stephen Pover three, Connor Jansen two and Ibrahim Soliman two.

The Redbacks under 15 men’s team narrowly lost to the Eagles 54 to 57. Jeet Mann was their highest scorer on 21 while Matthew Biletic had 15, Jack Wagner 10, Sean Jakens seven and Jonathon Warren one. They are in fifth conference place out of six teams with no wins and two losses.

The Redbacks under 16 men had a close two-point win with a scorecard of 70 to 68. Giordano Monteleone top-scored with 26 while Beau Chaplin had 16, Lattrell Matthews 13, Jarrett Donker four, Jacob Marr four, Yoseph Soliman four, Clint Jansen two and Alex Bevilaqua one. They are currently in third place in the six-team conference with one win and one loss.

The Redbacks under 18 division-two team is in fourth conference place with one win and one loss following their 62 to 60 win in a cliff-hanger that was decided in the last play of the game. Giorgio Milio top scored with 13, Liam Briggs had 11, Alex Guillon nine, Brad Smeaton eight, David Freissbourg-Mari six, Hasula Poogoda five and Matthew Raminah two.

The under 18 division-one team lost to the Eagles 40 to 81. They are in sixth and last conference position with no wins and two losses. Darcy Smit top-scored with 12, Josh Hindle had eight, Luke Fletcher five, Sanni Mandred and Ben Ellis both had four, Ashleigh Grigson three and Gilbert Serem two.

The under 20 men had a strong 95 to 68 win, which sees them in top position in the six-team conference with two wins and no losses. All players scored with SBL rookie Jake Whately top-scoring with 28, Steven Vigor 14, fellow SBL rookie Jamieson Lewis 13, Dylan Murphy and Johno Montgomery 10, Filip Glisic eight, Geordie Murray five, Ashley Flynn four and Sheldon Godfrey had three.

The Development-League women’s team won 55 to 48. Jessica Jakens top-scored with 16 while Gabby O’Sullivan had nine, Natasha Nicholson four, Alix Hayward four and Latoya Wallace three.   Although unbeaten with two wins and no losses they are in third conference place out of six-teams, based on percentages.

The Development-League men’s team won 96 to 63, which sees them in third conference place out of six-teams with one win and one loss. Michael Vigor top-scored with 35, Joshua guppy had 10, Tim Rendulic eight, Ashley Stephens seven, Jamieson Lewis six, Dale Elliot five and Jared Faint five.

Many of the women’s teams had byes as unfortunately the East Perth Eagles do not have teams in several of the WABL age-groups.
