Redbacks' women win tough game
The Perth Redbacks’ women’s State Basketball League team had a tough 74 to 68 win against the second placed Wanneroo Wolves.
Despite the win the Redbacks remain in eighth place in the 12-team competition with five wins and five losses.
Forward Brooke Hiddlestone was their top-scorer with 25 along with 18 rebounds.
Centre Marita Payne scored 21 and brought down eight rebounds while Jessica Matacz had 10 along with three rebounds and two steals.
Rebecca Mercer top-scored for the Wolves with 23, while Alex Kerr and Whitney Perret had 11 and 10 respectively.
In a high scoring encounter the Redbacks’ men went down to the Wolves 111 to 118.
Forward Adrian Majstrovich was the game-high scorer with 37 together with 12 rebounds and four assists.
Redbacks’ point guard Joel Wagner had 24 and 12 assists.
Centre Michael Vigor had 15 and nine rebounds, while point guard Jarrad Jackson also had 15 along with three rebounds and two assists.
The Wolves John Vaudreuil was their highest scorer with 28 while Matt Schmechtig had 26, Seb Selinas 18 and Damian Matacz 16.
The Redbacks’ men now have a season record of five wins and six losses and are sitting in seventh place in the 14-team competition.
The State Basketball League action continues next week for the Redbacks’ men’s team, who play the Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers in an away-game on Saturday night in Geraldton.
The Redbacks’ women’s team has a bye.
