Redbacks’ women bounce back

The Perth Redbacks’ Women’s State Basketball League team bounced back from its recent two losses in beating the Rockingham Flames 77 to 45 on Saturday night.

Redbacks 16-year-old young gun Jessica Jakens was the game-high scorer with 18 along with 11 rebounds. 

Former league most valuable player Brooke Hiddlestone was their next highest scorer with 14 and 18 rebounds while guard Narelle Henry scored 10 points together with five steals and two assists.

Guard Jacinta Bourne top-scored for the Flames with 14 points and 11 rebounds while forward Hayleigh Petersen was their next highest scorer with 11.

Despite the win other results have seen the Redbacks move from 6th to 8th position in the 12-team competition with a season record of three wins and three losses.

The Redbacks’ men’s team lost to the Flames in a high-scoring 99 to 109 encounter. 

Forward Adrian Majstrovich top-scored for the Redbacks with 32 along with 17 rebounds and four assists.

Point-guard Joel Wagner was their next highest scorer with 24 while making nine assists and taking six rebounds.

Shooting guard Ryan Neill scored 14 and four rebounds while centre Daniel Maddox scored 13 along with 10 rebounds.

Forward Rhett Della Maddalena top-scored for the Flames with 27 and took 19 rebounds while point-guard Carlin Hughes scored 19 and made five assists.

The loss sees the Redbacks’ men’s team move from second to fourth place in the 14-team competition with four wins and two losses.

This Friday the Redbacks’ men’s and women’s team travel to the Eaton Recreation Centre to play Bunbury, with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
