Redbacks stun Tigers

Perth Redbacks’ Men’s State Basketball League team had a stunning 98 to 91 away-win over 2010 premier’s Willetton Tigers in their first game of the year.

In a stellar debut for the Redbacks former National Basketball League player Adrian Majstrovich was the game-high scorer with 42 at field-goal percentage of 58 along with five rebounds, while shooting guard Ryan Neill was their next highest scorer with 21 also at 58% and six rebounds.

Redbacks’ US big-man Daniel Maddox scored 15 and brought down 15 rebounds while point-guard Jarrad Jackson made eight assists and scored 11.

Robert Kampman was the Tigers’ top-scorer with 33 from 33 shots.

The Redbacks’ Women’s State Basketball League side lost to the Tigers 58 to 83. 

Redbacks’ forward Brooke Hiddlestone scored 12 along with 10 rebounds. 

16-year-old small-forward Jessica Jakens had a strong debut game for the Redbacks scoring 10 together with 11 rebounds while centre Marita Payne scored 12.

The game-high scorer was the Tigers' Melissa Marsh with 22.

At the end of round one the Redbacks’ men’s team is in sixth place out of 14-teams while the women’s team is in 12th position out of 12-teams.

Round 2 of the State Basketball League sees the Redbacks playing the Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night at the WA Basketball Centre in Mt Claremont, with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s at 8.30PM. 

The action continues on Saturday with the Redbacks playing Lakeside Lightning in their first home-game of the year at the Belmont Oasis Leisure and Aquatic Centre with the women’s game starting at 6.00PM and the men’s game at 8.00PM.
