Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ WABL Finals Wrap – Week Two

The Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks won 2 games and lost 1 in week two semi-final round of the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) Finals last Sunday.

Development League men’s team player Michael Vigor was the highest Redbacks’ scorer on the day with 31 while under 18 women’s team player Jessica Jakens was the next highest scorer with 30. Under 18s women’s team player Gabby O’Sullivan, along with Development League men’s team player Jarrad Jackson, were both the next highest scorers with 16.

The under 12 men’s team lost 26 to 62, which sees them finishing in 6th position for the year out of 12 teams. Luke Simonette top-scored with 8 while Kyle Bowen and Reece Hewitt both had 6, Daniel Ong 3, Nicholas Pyne 2 and Nicholas Moody 1.

The under 18 women’s team had a strong 77 to 65 win against the Cockburn Cougars, which means they now advance to the preliminary final round. Jessica Jakens was the game-high scorer with 30 while Gabby O’Sullivan supplemented her strong point-guard performance with 16, Carlie Richardson scored 13, Madison Ireland 7, Jessica Hughes 5, Elise Neates 4 and Tiarn Burtenshaw 2. They will now play in this Sunday’s preliminary final round against Lakeside Lightning at 3.45PM at the WA Basketball Centre.

The Development League men’s team beat the Southwest Slammers 88 to 64 to also advance to the preliminary final round. This will be played against Lakeside Lightning at the WA Basketball Centre at 2.00PM. Michael Vigor was the game-high scorer with 31 while Jarrad Jackson scored 16, Blake Smith 10, Dale Elliot 9, Ashley Stephens 8, Jake Whately 6, Ben Cecins 5 and Tim Rendulic 3.

The Development League women’s team progressed directly through to the preliminary final round after winning their qualifying round game in week one of the finals. They will be playing the Wanneroo Wolves at 2PM at the WA Basketball Centre.

All three Redbacks’ teams in this weekend’s preliminary final round are playing for a spot in the grand final, while it is mothballs for any losing teams until season 2011.

All Redbacks’ supporters are asked to come down to the WA Basketball Centre at 106 Stephenson Ave, Mount Claremont this Sunday to support our three teams in their endeavours to make the grand final.
