Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ WABL Finals Wrap – Week One

In a disappointing start to the finals the Benchmark Designer Home Redbacks WABL teams won 1 of 9 games.

The finals formula is structured such that losing teams in the qualifying final will continue into week two while losing teams in the elimination finals do not progress.

All games from week two onwards become potential elimination games with no second chances.

The finals will all be played from now on at the WA Basketball Centre, 106 Stephenson Ave, Mount Claremont.

The under 12 men’s team lost their qualifying final against Perry Lakes Hawks 25 to 67. Reece Hewitt top-scored with 10 while Joshua Armstrong had 6 and Ben Vos, Kyle Bowen, Nicholas Pyne and Kyle Sullivan all had 2. They will now play the Rockingham Flames in the semi-final at 9.00AM this Sunday on Court 1.

The under 12 women’s team lost to the Stirling Senators 12 to 51 in the elimination final. This means their finals race is now over. Chloe Smith top-scored with 8 while Maddy Craig and Noor Soliman both had 2.

The under 13 men’s team lost their elimination final against the Hawks 39 to 54 and will now take no further part in the finals. Adam Parora top-scored with 10, Stephen Pover had 8, Nicholas Ramsay 6, Max Whately 5 and Daniel Shelton 5.

The under 14 men’s team lost to the Stirling Senators 53 to 65 in the elimination final, meaning they are now out of the finals race. Jeet Mann continued with his season long run of high scores in scoring a strong 20 while Shaquille Maharaj had 10, Matthew Biletic 8, Timothy Lewis 5, Sean Jakens and Jack Wagner 3 and Fraser Rose and Jonathon Warren with 2.

The under 15 men’s team lost 49 to 55 against the Hawks in a tight, hard-fought elimination final encounter. Individual scores have not been posted onto the BWA WABL website for this game. The loss means their finals race is now over.

The under 16 women’s team lost their elimination final against the Hawks 52 to 68. Again individual scores have not been posted onto the web for this game. They are now out of the finals race.

The under 18 women’s team lost their qualifying final against the Hawks 69 to 83. Individual scores are not available as per the above. They will now be playing the Cockburn Cougars in the semi-final at 3.30PM on Sunday on court 2.

The Development League men’s team lost their qualifying final against the Hawks 70 to 89. They will now play in a semi-final game against the Southwest Slammers this Sunday at 3.30PM (Court number not available). Individual scores have not been posted for this game.

The Development League women’s team were the only winning team for the Redbacks in week 1, beating the Hawks 46 to 32 in their qualifying final game. They now progress straight through to the preliminary final round in week 3. Individual scores have not been posted for this game.

Congratulations goes to all teams that have made the finals and best wishes for season 2011 to those that have now been eliminated.
