Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks WABL Wrap – Week Nine

Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ Western Australian Basketball League teams had 6 wins and 10 losses in last Sunday’s home-game fixtures. All teams played the Southwest Slammers apart from the under 18 Division 2 side, which played the Willetton Tigers.

Under 18 women’s team player Jessica Jakens was the overall top-scorer for the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks with 42. Under 16 men’s team player Luke Fletcher was the next highest with 28 while under 15 women’s team player Samantha Tognolini had 25.

The under 12 men’s team had their fourth win on the trot with a score of 33 to 29. Kyle Bowen top-scored with 12 while Reece Hewitt and Daniel Ong had 6, Luke Simonette 5 and Ben Vos 4. They are in 3rd place in the 5 team Northern Conference competition with 4 wins and 4 losses.

The under 12 women’s team lost 22 to 47. They now have 1 win and 8 losses and are in 5th place in the team conference. Chloe Smith top-scored with 9, Samantha Campbell had 8 and Sophie Pyne 5.

The under 13 men’s team won 43-41 in a cliff-hanger game. In a whole-of-team effort in which all players found themselves on the score-sheet Adam Parora top-scored with 13, Nicholas Ramsay and Stephen Pover both had 7, Daniel Skelton 6, Max Whately 4 and Jordan Hands, Ibraham Soliman and Alex Mancini all had 2. They now have 5 wins and 4 losses and are in 3rd conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 13 women’s team lost 21 to 32. Juliet Tucker top-scored with 6, Talethia Valentine had 5 and both Emerson Lambert and Vanessa Harwood 4. They have won 2 games and lost 6 and are in 3rd conference place out of 5 teams.

The under 14 men’s team lost 39 to 45 in a tight encounter. Jack Wagner and Shaquille Maharaj both top-scored with 10 each while Matthew Biletic had 6, Jeet Mann and Sean Jakens 4, Matthew Newell 3 and Jack Lowes 2. They are now one of 3 teams in their 6-team conference with 5 wins and 4 losses and are in 3rd place.

The under 14 women’s team lost 18 to 58. Jessica Richardson top-scored with 7 while Rebecca Sampson had 3, Alison McKelvie, Kyra Law and Juliet Ratima all had 2 and Joanna Hoang and Michelle Curro both had 1.

The under 15 men won 54 to 47, which sees them in 3rd place in the 6-team conference with 6 wins and 3 losses. Lattrell Matthews top-scored with 16, Jarrett Donker and Giordano Monteleone both had 11, Jacob Marr 6, Clint Jansen 4 and Julian Nelthorpe 2.

Despite coming back strongly after being behind by 17-points during the first half, the ever-improving under 15 women’s team could not bridge the gap and lost 60 to 67. They now have 1 win and 8 losses and are in 5th conference place out of 6 teams. Samantha Tognolini top-scored with 25 while Shayna Van Bakkum had 10, Blade Willison 4 and Rachael Goodger 4.

The under 16 men’s team lost 63 to 87. Luke Fletcher top-scored with 28, Domenic Romeo had 14, Jake Staunton 10, Liam Briggs 3, Matthew Ramanah 2 and Conor Kelly 2. They now have 2 wins and 7 losses and are in 5th conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 16 women’s team won 57 to 52 in a tight encounter. Abbey Harris had 20, Lori Ashworth 14, Jessica Hughes 6, Bianca Parora and Caitlin Largue both had 5, Sophie Mackin 4 and Kristie Hawes 3. They now have 6 wins and 3 losses and are in 4th conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 18 Division 2 men’s team lost 33 to 84. They have yet to win in 7 games and are in 6th conference place. Scott Sampson scored 9, Ralph Bianchini and Jonathan Birkett 7, Josh Hindle 5, Sanni Mandred 3 and Giorgi Milio 1.

The under 18 women’s team lost a see-saw tussle 72 to 77. Jessica Jakens continued her run of strong scores with 42 while Gabby O’Sullivan had 9, Carlie Richardson 8, Tiarn Burtenshaw 6, Jessica Hughes 4 and Madison Ireland 3. They are one of 3 conference teams with a season record of 4 wins and 5 losses. This sees them in 2nd place out of 6 teams.

The under 18 Division One men’s team lost 55 to 89. Filip Glisich top-scored with a strong 25 while Ben Ellis had 10, Darcy Smit 9, Luke Fletcher 5, Declan Everett 4 and Dylan Murphy 2. They now have 1 win and 8 losses and are in 6th conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 20 men’s team lost a tight encounter against the Willetton Tigers 64 to 70. Sheldon Godfrey top-scored with 16, Joshua Guppy and Geordie Murray both had 14, Alessio Milio and Jordan Ah Chee both had 7 and Ryan Vincent 6. They have a season record of 2 wins and 6 losses and are in 8th place in the 9-team competition.

The Development League women’s team had a strong 83 to 52 win. Latoya Wallace had 17, Monique Kickett 13, Alix Hayward 12, Katarina Ualkovic and Kristy Jedrzewewski both had 8, Natasha Nicholson 7 and Gabby O’Sullivan 4. They now have 7 wins and 2 losses and are in 2nd conference place out of 6 teams.

The Development League men’s team also had a strong 84 to 58 win. Tim Rendulic had 21, Michael Vigor 16, Reece Dempster 12, Blake Smith 9, Dale Elliot 8, Ben Cecins 8, Jarrad Jackson 6 and Jake Whately 4. They remain in top-place in their 6-team conference with 8 wins and 1 loss.

The WABL now goes into a two week recess during the school holidays. The Redbacks’ next fixture is at home on 18 July at the Leisurelife Recreation Centre against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.
