Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ WABL Wrap Round 8

Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks Western Australian Basketball League teams won 8 of 15 away games against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns last Sunday.

Under 18 women’s player Jessica Jakens was the highest female and overall scorer for the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks with 34 points. The next highest female scorer was under 16 Jessica Hughes with 20, under 12 Samantha Campbell with 18 and under 15 Shayna Van Bakkum with 17.

Under 16 men’s player Luke Fletcher was the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks men’s WABL highest scorer with 31 points. He was followed by under 15 players Jeet Mann on 25 and Giordano Monteleone 24 with the under 12s Stephen Pover and under 18 Division 1s Filip Glisic both with 20.

The under 12 men’s team saw the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks WABL teams off to good start in the first game of the morning winning a tight encounter 35 to 31. This was their 3rd win in a row, which sees them with 3 wins and 4 losses and in 4th place out of the 5 Northern Conference teams. Kyle Bowen top scored with 11 while Luke Simonette had 8, Daniel Ong 6, Reece Hewitt 4, Nicholas Pyne 4, and Nicholas Moody 2.

The under 12 women’s team lost 22 to 53. Top scorer with Samantha Campbell with a strong 18 points while Chloe Grant and Chloe Smith both had 2. They now have 1 win and 7 losses and are in 5th conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 13 men had a strong 52 to 36 win. Their season record is 4 wins and 4 losses, which sees them in 4th conference place out of 6 teams. Stephen Pover top-scored with 20 while Adam Parora had 18, Daniel Skelton 6, Jordan Hands 2, Max Whately 2, Nicholas Ramsay 2 and Ibraham Soliman 2.

The under 13 women’s team lost a close game 32 to 39. This sees them with a season record of 2 wins and five losses and in 3rd conference place out of 5 teams. Emerson Lambert top-scored with 12 while Talethia Valentine had 6, Juliet Tucker 3, Tayla Naudi 3, Amelia Khuu 2 and Vanessa Harwood 2.

The under 14 men’s team won 57 to 49. Jeet Mann top-scored with 25 while Jack Wagner had 10, Matthew Biletic 8, Shaquille Maharaj 8, Dion Street 2, Matthew Newell 2, Joshua Rose 1 and Connor Jansen 1. They have now won 5 games and lost 3 and are in 2nd conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 14 women’s team lost 12 to 68. They have yet to win this year in their 7 games and are in 5th conference place. Michelle Curro top-scored with 3 while Jessica Richardson, Rebecca Sampson and Juliet Ratima all had 2 and Alison McKelvie 1.

The under 15 men’s team had a strong 72 to 53 point win, with all of their players finding themselves on the scoresheet. Giordano Monteleone top-scored with 24 while Lattrell Matthews had 21, Jarrett Donker 8, Jacob Marr 8, Clint Jansen 2, Harrison Petkovich 2, Yoseph Soliman 2 while Julian Nelthorpe, Lloyd Harwood and Alex Bevilaqua all had 1.

Although losing 48 to 94, all of the players in the under 15 women’s team scored. The top-scorer was Shayna Van Bakkum with an impressive 17, Rachael Goodger 5, Taylor Burtenshaw 4, Tiarn Burtenshaw 4, Emerson Lambert 4, Blade Willison 4 and Tahlia Rodgers 1. This score was even more impressive when taking into consideration that Samantha Tognolini, who scored 48 in a previous game, was not available due to injury. They now have 1 win and 7 losses and are in 5th conference place out of 6 teams.

The under 16 men’s team recorded their second win in a row with an 83 to 61 score-line. They now have 2 wins and 6 losses and are in 5th conference place out of 6 teams. Top-scorer was Luke Fletcher with 31 while David Freissbourg-Mari had 18, Domenic Romeo 14, Liam Briggs 10, Matthew Ramanah 6, Conor Kelly 2 and Jake Staunton 2.

The under 16 women’s team won their game 74 to 59. Jessica Hughes had 20, Lori Ashworth 15, Abbey Harris 10, Kristie Hawes 9, Bianca Parora 8, Natasha Ziino 5, Caitlin Largue 3, Sophie Mackin 2 and Rhiannon Petersen 2. They now have 5 wins and 3 losses and are in 4th place in their conference out of 6 teams.

The under 18 Division Two men’s team lost 40 to 88. They have yet to win any of their 6 games played and are in 6th conference place. Sam Mandred top-scored with 12 while Scott Sampson had 11, Kevin Zhu 4, Brad Smeaton 3, Josh Hindle 3, Mark Elliott 3, Giorgio Milio 2 and Joshua Rose 2.

The under 18 women’s team won 60 to 50. This means they have a win/loss record of 4/4 and are in 2nd conference place out of 6 teams. Jessica Jakens had 34, Gabby O'Sullivan 15, Elise Neates 3, Carlie Richardson 3, Madison Ireland 3 and Caris Dinardo 2.

The under 18 Division One men’s team lost 57 to 89, which sees them with a season record of 1 win and 7 losses and in 6th conference place out of 6 teams. Filip Glisich had 20, Dylan Murphy 18, Darcy Smit 12, Ben Ellis 3, Charles Corr 2 and Luke Fletcher 2.

The under 20 men’s team had a bye, which means they remain in 8th place in the 9-team competition with a win/loss record of 2/5.

The Development League men’s team remained in top-place after their tough 64 to 56 win. They now have a season record of 7 wins and 1 loss. Ashley Stephens had 15, Reece Dempster 9, Michael Vigor 7, Tim Rendulic 7, Dale Elliot 7, Jared Faint 7, Jarrad Jackson 6 and Ben Cecins 3.

The Development League women’s team lost 57 to 66. Jacinta Bourne and Alix Hayward both top-scored with 14 while Latoya Wallace had 11, Gabby O'Sullivan 7, Monique Kickett 4, Katarina Ualkovic 4 and Catherine Tinley 3. They now have a season record of 6 wins and 2 losses and are in 2nd conference place out of 6 teams.

The action continues this Sunday for the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks at the Leisurelife Centre, 34 Kent Street East Victoria Park against the Southwest Slammers. The exception is the under 20 men’s team who will be playing the Willetton Tigers (at Leisurelife).
