Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ WABL Wrap Round Six

The Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks Western Australian Basketball League teams had a strong 10 win four loss result in round six of fixtures. These fixtures were played at home against the East Perth Eagles in all grades except for the under 20 men, who played the Lakeside Lightning.

Under 18 women’s player Jessica Jakens was the highest Redbacks’ scorer on the day with 51, closely followed by under 15s women’s player Samantha Tognolini who scored 48. The highest Redbacks’ male player scorers were the under 15’s Lattrell Matthews and Development League player Michael Vigor who both scored 24.

Coach Michael Romero was excited as his under 12 men’s team had their first win of the year with a score of 40 to 27. The highest scorer was Kyle Bowen with 11 followed by Reece Hewitt with 10, Luke Simonette eight, Daniel Ong five, Nicholas Moody four and Nicholas Pyne two. They now have one win and four losses for the season and are in fourth place in the Northern Conference out of five teams.

The under 12 women’s team had a hard-fought 35 to 28 win. This was also their first win of the year and sees them with a season record of one win and five losses and in fifth conference place. Chloe Smith continued her strong recent form with 17 followed by Samantha Campbell nine, Chloe Grant five and Maddy Craig two.

The under 13 men’s team had a 52 to 42 win. Stephen Pover was the Redbacks’ highest scorer with 17 closely followed by Adam Parora 16, Jordan Hands 14, Daniel Skelton four, Ibraham Soliman four and Max Whatley two. They now have three wins and three losses and are in fourth conference place out of six teams.

The under 14 men’s team lost 42 to 61. Jeet Mann top-scored with 15 while Matthew Bilitech had 12, Shaquille Maharaj seven, Timothy Lewis five and Sean Jakens two. They also have a season record of three wins and three losses and are in third conference place out of six teams.

Lattrell Matthews had 24, Giordano Monteleone 15, Jarrett Donker 12, Jacob Marr 11, Lloyd Harwood seven, Clint Jansen six and Alex Bevilaqua two in the under 15 men’s 77 to 63 win. This sees them with a three win/three loss season record and in third conference place out of six teams.

The under 15 women’s team had a strong 74 to 55 win. Samantha Tognolini top-scored with 48 while Tahlia Rodgers had eight, Taylor Burtenshaw four, Blade Willison four, Michelle Curro four, Rachel Goodger three and Rebecca Samson two. This was their first win of the year in six games which sees them in fifth conference place out of six teams.

The under 16 men’s team lost 61 to 108. They have not yet won a game this year and are in sixth conference place after six games. Their top-scorer was last year’s league most valuable player, Luke Fletcher, with 20 while Liam Briggs had 14, Conor Kelly eight, David Freissbourg-Man five, Jake Staunton four, Domenic Romeo three, Darren Lopez two and Matthew Ramanah two.

The under 16 women’s team won 74 to 55. They are now fourth in their six-team conference with a win/loss record of four/two. Caitlin Largue had 15, Jessica Hughes 13, Abbey Harris nine, Natasha Ziino six, Sophie Mackin six, Lori Ashworth five, Kristie Hawes four while Bianca Parora and Rhiannon Petersen both had two.

The under 18 Division Two men’s team lost 61 to 75. Scott Sampson was their highest scorer on 17 while Mark Elliott had 15, Bradley Hall eight, Giorgio Milio eight, Stephen Bianchini six, Josh Hindle three, Brad Smeaton two and Sanni Mandred two. They have not yet won a game this year in five matches and are sixth in their conference.

The under 18 women’s team won 119 to 36. They now have a two win/four loss season record and are in third conference place out of six teams. All players scored in this game with Jessia Jakens the top-scorer on 51 while Gabby O’Sullivan had 17, Caris Dinardo 14, Elise Neates nine, Emma Black seven, Carlie Richardson seven and Tiarn Burtenshaw four.

The under 18 Division One men’s team won their first game of the year in a tough game with a 76 to 67 score. Steven Vigor top-scored with 18 while Darcy Smit had 15, Jamieson Lewis 12, Filip Olisic 11, Declan Everett six, Ben Ellis six and Dylan Murphy five. They have a season record of one win and five losses and are in sixth conference place.

In a tightly fought game the under 20 men went down to Lakeside Lightning 57 to 63. Geordie Murray top-scored with 15 while Joshua Guppy had 12, Jordan Ah Chee eight, Sheldon Godfrey seven, Shaun Bartlett seven, Ryan Vincent six and Ashley Flynn two. They have one win and five losses for the year and are in ninth-place on the nine-team ladder.

The Development League men’s team had their fifth win of the year out of six games with a score of 81 to 45. This sees them in second place in the six-team conference. Michael Vigor top-scored with 24 while Reece Dempster had 15, Tim Rendulic 13, Ben Cecins 11, Ashley Stephens seven, Dale Elliot five and Jake Whatley, Paul Cassir and Blake Smith all had two.

The Development League women’s team also has a win/loss record of five and one and is in second-place in the six-team conference, following their 93 to 28 win. Frances Clarke top-scored with 20 while Katarina Ualkovic had and Alix Hayward had 14, Jacinta Bourne 12, Kristy Jedrzewewski nine, Catherine Tinley nine, Gabby O’Sullivan eight and Monique Kickett eight.

The under 13s and 14s women’s teams both had byes.

The next games for the Benchmark Designer Homes Redbacks’ WABL teams are against the Mandurah Magic in Mandurah, with the exception of the under 20s who are playing the East Perth Eagles.
