Payne Wins Powerplayer of Week
Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks’ women’s State Basketball League player Marita Payne won the league’s Powerplay Sports Subiaco player of the week award for round 12.
This was after Marita’s powerful game against the Bunbury Slammers last weekend, which the Redbacks won 91 to 44 points. She scored 30 points at the perfect field goal percentage of 100, or 13 makes from 13 shots along with 11 rebounds, five blocked shots, three assists and one steal.
The former Australian Opals Squad member and current Women’s National Basketball League player has had a major impact since joining the league just seven games ago. She has scored 137 points at 19.6 per game (pg) and at a field goal percentage of 57.4% and has made 19 blocked shots at 2.5 pg, 17 assists at 2.4 pg and brought down 83 rebounds or 10.9 pg.
The Redbacks congratulates Marita on winning this award and looks forward to her being a repeated threat for opposition teams in games to come.
