Redbacks Lose Double to Wolves

The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks lost both of their away games to the Wanneroo Wolves in the State Basketball League last Friday night.

The Redbacks women’s team lost 54 to 58. Their forward Brooke Hiddlestone was the game-high scorer with 24 points along with a strong 23 rebounds and two assists.

Forward Kerise Delcoure and guard Latoya Wallace were the Redbacks’ next highest scorers with six points apiece. Delcoure also accumulated three steals and four rebounds while Wallace had two assists, two steals and two rebounds.

However the Wolves had a better spread of scorers with Perth Lynx player Rebecca Mercer scoring 20 points, forward Danielle Lipscombe scoring 16 points along with 13 rebounds and Meghan D’Arcy scoring 10 points.

The Redbacks’ women now have a season record of four wins and three losses and are in fifth place in the 12-team competition.

The Redbacks’ men lost 102-119. Perth Wildcat Jess Wagstaff was the Redbacks’ and the game high scorer with 29 points along with nine rebounds. Centre and US import Daniel Maddox had another strong game with 19 points and nine rebounds, while shooting guard Jarrad Prior had 15 points along with eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

Small forward Seb Salinas was the Wolves highest scorer with 29 points along with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals, with centre John Smith their next highest scorer with 25 points along with 13 rebounds and one blocked shot.

The loss has meant the Redbacks’ men slip one place to fourth in the 14-team competition with five wins and three losses.

The Redbacks next game is at home against the Stirling Senators at the Belmont Oasis Stadium, corner Alexander and Abernethy Roads Belmont this Friday night. The women’s game starts at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
