The Perth Redbacks’ State Basketball League women’s team had a strong win over the Rockingham Flames 80 to 64 in Rockingham. Top scorer for Perth was forward and ex Perth Lynx player, Brooke Hiddlestone with 24 points followed by centre Christine Boyd with 20 points. Shelley Boston top scored for the Flames with 15 point followed by former Perth player Kristelle Councillor with 14 points.

However, the women’s team lost in their other match over the weekend against Cockburn Cougars played at Belmont Oasis, 47 to 49. Hiddlestone again top scored for Perth with 18 points with Boyd being the next highest scorer on 9 points. Fleur McIntyre top scored for Cockburn with 18 points.

The split weekend sees the women’s team remain in 5th position in the 13-team competition with a 4 win 2 loss record.

The Redbacks’ men’s team lost to the top-placed Cockburn Cougars 91 to 95 in a game that went right down to the wire. Shooting guard Ryan Neill top scored for the Redbacks with 28 points followed by centre and US import Kenny Harris with 17 points.

The men’s team also lost in their encounter against the 3rd placed Flames 88 to 84. Neill also top scored with 25 points followed by forward Clint Tracy who scored 24 points. Harris also contributed strongly for Perth with 24 rebounds and 10 points.

Despite their recent close results against top-placed teams over the last 3 weeks, the Redbacks’ men are yet to record a win in their seven matches to date and find themselves in 13th position in the 14-team competition.

The next home game for the Redbacks is on Saturday at Belmont Oasis against the East Perth Eagles, with the women’s game starting at 6:00PM and the men’s game at 8:00PM. Both teams will also be playing the Bunbury Slammers in Bunbury the previous evening.
