Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks Becomes A Local Drug Action Group Member

:: Perth Basketball Association Inc. News Item

5-11-2007 - By Gary Prior

The Local Drug Action Groups Inc. is responsible for the management and ongoing development of the network of over 80 community based Local Drug Action Groups operating throughout Western Australia. As such, this network represents a significant volunteer resource in local Western Australian communities.

Local Drug Action Groups focus their work on engaging and supporting whole communities. Emphasis is on local and practical action, grass roots community development, from a prevention perspective.

Hundreds of projects are undertaken by Local Drug Action Groups throughout the State each year. The Local Drug Action Groups Inc provides opportunities for grants to partially fund many of the projects run by its Local Drug Action Group members.

Youth, parents and the broader community are involved in planning and participating in projects that aim to prevent and reduce drug related harm in their local communities - thereby creating long-term, sustainable changes at a community level.

Our club has already been involved in organising two Local Drug Action Group events at its two recent basketball camps conducted at Foxys’ Indoor Stadium in Kelmscott. At the first camp in July the “Drug Aware” message was the focus and, at our second camp in October, the “Enough is Enough” message in respect to alcohol was the focus.

It is flagged that further Local Drug Action Group projects are to be held including:

* our upcoming basketball camp at Narrogin on 24 and 25 November;
* an upcoming Singlet Presentation Family Day in late February or early March 2008; and
* a State Basketball League match to be conducted during Drug Action Week in late June 2008.

Please keep a watch out on our website for further information that will be published regarding these events. Also, note the link on our website to Local Drug Action Groups Inc should you be interested in accessing any further information.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
