Redbacks Receive Numerous Basketball WA Awards

Perth Redbacks players and volunteers were prominent in the recently held Basketball WA Annual Awards Dinner.

Christine Boyd capped off her stellar year in the women’s State Basketball League with awards for the prestigious Most Valuable Player and the highest points scorer, the latter being 525 points at 24 points per game.

Joel Wagner won the men’s State Basketball League awards for the Most Improved Player along with the highest numbers of assists of 228, a Redbacks club record.

Sophie Kelly won the award for the women’s State Basketball League highest field goal percentage with 54.1% or 86 makes out of 159 attempts.

Ron Romero won the statisticians award, which also capped off his selection as statistician in the State Basketball League grand final this year.

Margaret Prior won the best photograph of the year award for a State Basketball League with a photograph that has simply been titled “The Block”, being a picture of Sophie Kelly blocking an attempted shot by a player from the Lakeside Lightning.
