Dissapointing Weekend For Redbacks

8-7-2007 - By Gary Prior
In a disappointing weekend the Perth Redbacks’ men’s and women’s State Basketball League teams lost both of their games against the Lakeside Lightning and Rockingham Flames.
The Redbacks’ men’s 75 to 99 point loss to the top placed Lightning happened despite shooting guard and former league most valuable player Ryan Neill scoring a game-high 33 points. Fellow shooting guard Jarrad Prior was the next highest scorer for the Redbacks with 17 points along with 9 rebounds.
Neill was also the game-high scorer in the Redbacks’ 107 to 117 point loss to Rockingham with 40 points. 19-year-old Forward Trent Dell’orso brought down 16 rebounds while point guard Joel Wagner made an impressive 14 assists, consolidating his league high position in this statistical category.
The losses see the Redbacks’ men remain in 12th place in the 13-team competition, with 3 wins and 16 losses.
The Redbacks’ women lost to Lightning 42 to 63 with centre Christine Boyd being the game-high scorer with 18 points. Boyd was also the game-high scorer in the 68 to 81 point loss to Flames with 31 points along with 9 rebounds and was supported by forward Sophie Kelly’s 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The two losses were costly for the Redbacks’ women as it sees them slip from 5th to 6th place in the 12 team competition.
The action continues this Saturday night with the Redbacks playing the Mandurah Magic on Friday night at the Belmont Oasis Stadium, with the women’s game starting at 6:30PM and the men’s game at 8:30PM.
