Boyd Triumphs In 200th Game

In what was a tough encounter last Saturday night at the Belmont Oasis Stadium, the Perth Redbacks’ women’s State Basketball League team celebrated veteran Christine Boyd’s 200th game in fine style, beating the East Perth Eagles 69 to 59 points.
In what was typical of her sensational form throughout the year, Boyd was the game high scorer with 35 points along with 15 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. She was strongly supported by point guard Monique Kickett who scored 9 points, Kristelle Councillor with 8 points and Jess Melville with 5 points.
The win sees the Redbacks’ women’s team remain in 5th place in the 12 team competition with 8 wins and 5 losses
The Redbacks’ men’s team lost against East Perth 99 to 93 points in a game that went right down to the wire. Ryan De Glanville had a sensational game for Perth in his personal encounter against former Perth Wildcat Justin Brown in scoring 16 points at a strong field goal percentage of 70%, as well as taking an impressive 14 rebounds. Former East Carolina College player Luke Mackay was the highest scorer for Perth with 26 points and backed this up with 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocked shots.
The loss means that the Redbacks’ men drop one place to 12th position in the 13 team competition with 2 wins and 12 losses.
The Redbacks men and women travel to Perry Lakes Stadium this Saturday night for their encounters with the strong Perry Lakes Hawks combinations, with the women’s game starting at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
