Redbacks Have Magic

The Perth Redbacks Women had another win against a top four team this weekend, beating the fourth placed Mandurah Magic (11-3 at Round 12). The 74-72 win leaves the Redbacks still in fifth place but just one game behind Mandurah, who the Redbacks face at Belmont in two weeks time.
The Redbacks showed a lot of poise to never let the Magic get back infront in the last quater. Had they converted more from the free throw line late in the half it could have been a much more comfortable win.
The ladies were led by the ever reliable Christine Boyd with 25 points and her partner in the crime, Sophie Kelly with 17. Gemma Thomas top scored for the Magic with 17 and Casey Mihovolovich added 15.
With two double header weekends to go against three of the teams in the finals picture, the next fortnight is crucial and your support at home (three games @ Belmont) and away will be of the highest significance.
The Men were without a spark tonight in their 91-125 loss to the last placed Mandurah outfit. The Redbacks gave Mandurah their third win in five games and leaves both teams at 3-13 at the foot of the ladder.
Luke Mackay sat the game out with an injured foot from the Friday night fixture against the Senators. Captain Ryan Neill took charge in Mackays absence, scoring 33 points. Jarrad Prior finished the match with 20. Joel Wagner managed to finish with 11 assists for the match.
Magic import, Joseph Martin was unable to be contained by the Redbacks, scoring 40 points and pulling in 23 rebounds. He was ably supported by Ben Caporn who put in 19.
The Redbacks have two home games at Belmont next weekend and will need everyones support to help them over the line. On Friday the 6th of July the teams faced off against the reigning Women's and Men's premiers, Lakeside Lightning (Women @ 6:30pm & Men & 8:30pm). The following night, Saturday the 7th of July the teams face off against the Rockingham Flames (Women @ 6:00pm & Men @ 8:00pm). Your support is greatly appreciated by all the players and we look forward to seeing MANY more people at the remaining home games.
