LOCAL BASKETBALL WITH AN INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR

The Perth Redbacks will be holding an exhibition match with an international flavour in September. The Redbacks will take on the reigning Japanese Basketball League champions, Toyota Alvark. This will be a sensational event and your chance to see some international basketball stars take on the three time State Basketball League champions.
The game will be held at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre on Cnr Abernethy & Alexander Rds, Belmont 6104 on Thursday the 7th of September. The action will tip off at 7:00pm with great prizes, full bar facilities and of course a great night out at the basketball. Tickets can be purchased from Sandra Bors sbldirector@perthredbacks.asn.au) or on the night for just $5 for kids and $10 for adults.
Toyota Alvark boast outstanding international talent on their roster with their captain, Charles O’Bannon a former NBA draft pick (1997). O’Bannon played 48 NBA games with the Detroit Pistons. Doron Perkins is the reigning MVP of the Japanese Basketball League and will be a handful for the Redbacks.
Along with their American talent is outstanding Japanese talent, Michael Takahashi played for Japan in the World Championships and has won 4 championships in Japan. Satoru Furuta, Orimo Takehiko and Ryota Sakurai are on the Japanese national team for the 2006 World FIBA Championships.
Toyota Alvark are in Perth to play a three match series against the Perth Wildcats from the National Basketball League. The series will be used as part of the very few but vital pre-season games for the Wildcats as they prepare for the upcoming season. While they are here they have chosen to take on the Perth Redbacks in one extra match. It will be your last chance to see this amazing Japanese team before they head out of the country.
