Redbacks Scoop Pool

For the first time in season 2006 the men’s and women’s Perth Redbacks State Basketball League teams won both of their games against Bunbury Slammers and Stirling Senators o the weekend. The wins see the men move from 12th to 11th place with 4 wins and 12 losses and the women from 6th to 5th place.
In a phenomenal game, the men beat Bunbury Slammers 140 to 83 and the highly-rated Stirling Senators 109 to 96, while the women beat Bunbury 71 to 68 in a tough encounter won by successful free-throw shooting and the Senators 66 to 55.
18-year-old shooting guard Jarrad Prior was the stand-out player in the Bunbury game scoring a remarkable 59 points at a field goal shooting percentage of 60, while also taking 8 rebounds and making 6 assists, 1 block and 4 steals.. The 59 points is the highest score for an individual player in the State Basketball League competition this year and is an individual scoring record for the Perth Redbacks. The previous record of 52 points was set only two week’s ago by Luke Mackay and prior to that the record of 51 points was set in 1990 by Andrew Vlahov.
In the game against Stirling another young-gun, 18-year-old point guard Joel Wagner, was Perth’s best player with 20 points, 8 assists and 1 steal while Luke Mackay put in a strong 35 points in his tough encounter against former Perth Wildcat Carmie Olowoyo.
Christine Boyd and Brooke Hiddlestone were the stand-out players for the Redbacks’ women in their win against Bunbury while scoring 26 and 25 points respectively. Point-guard Hayley Clendinning had a strong game in the women’s win against Stirling scoring 10 points while also taking 10 rebounds and making 2 assists.
This Friday night the Perth Redbacks play Lakeside Lightning at Belmont Oasis with the women’s game starting at 6:30 PM and the men’s game starting at 8:30 PM, followed by games against the Wanneroo Wolves with the women starting at 6:00 PM and the men at 8:00 PM at Wanneroo’s home court.
