CODE OF CONDUCT- COACHES

As a Coach, you are a Representative of Healesville Hornets Basketball Association. It is required that you are aware of the following guidelines. These guidelines are in place to ensure that you, as a member of this Association, are supported and the Club is also supported in the event that you break one of these codes.

• Remember that Basketball is for enjoyment and sporting fun, with winning an added bonus. Participation is the major focus.
• Be reasonable in your demands of younger players
• Teach your players the Rules of the game as well as an understanding and respect for the rules. Emphasize the importance of the learning and development of skills, with a positive attitude
• Give all players equal court time. Avoid over-playing talented players in favour of those ‘just average’ players. Players need and deserve equal court time, as everybody pays the same amount for a Basketball game
• Never ridicule or yell at your players for making mistakes or losing a competition. Develop team respect for opponents as well as the judgement of Referee’s (even if you don’t agree with a call!)
• Follow the advice of a qualified person when determining when an injured player is ready to play or train again
• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. Avoid the use of derogatory language.
