Meteors Squad Program
About the Program
The Moe Meteors representative basketball program is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to develop the skills required to compete in a better standard of basketball competition, through access to quality instruction from our team of experienced coaching staff.
Selected participants have the opportunity to compete against the best basketball players from surrounding towns in serveral round robin tournaments held throughout the local area. They may also get to compete in weekly practice games in the next age group up of our domestic competition.
Not only does participation in the program help develop your child's playing ability, it also brings higher self esteem, new pleasures of achievement, and more importantly, fosters the development of new friendships.
Commitment Required
Please be aware that the commitment required from you and your child to participate in the Moe Basketball representative program is significant, it includes:
- Travelling considerable distances to tournaments
- Attendance at ALL training sessions, practice games and tournaments
- Compliance with Basketball Victoria’s code of conduct
- Commitment to the Moe Basketball ethos
- Substantial financial commitment
- Volunteering as a score table official for at least one game per tournament
Eligibility
Players must play in the domestic competition of the town they represent. If your child is not playing in a domestic team at Moe they are not eligible to play squad with Moe Basketball.
Try Outs
Individuals are required to attend a series of try out sessions in order to gain selection to a representative team. Try outs are a critical opportunity for players to demonstrate their ability and commitment. Try out sessions will be advertised by coaches prior to the squad season commencing. All sessions should be seen as compulsory.
If for some reason you are unable to make it to a try out session, be sure to notify the team coach.
Selection Process
It is important to understand that the selection process is competitive and that some players may miss out. Previous representative basketball playing experience does not guarantee any player selection to a squad team.
Teams are selected based on a number of factors, including:
- Attendance
- Commitment, passion and loyalty
- Team work
- Coach-ability (attitude, body language and work ethic)
- Athleticism
- Skill and ability
- Team balance
If your child is unsuccessful in attaining a position within a squad team, there will be an opportunity for you to request feedback from the coach once team selections have been announced.
Training Sessions
- At least once a week
- Typically 1 ½ hours long
- Attendance is compulsory
- Players should arrive early, ready to train at the scheduled start time
Cost to Participate
Whilst there are no upfront costs, players will be expected to pay:
- $15.00 towards the entry fee for each tournament
- Stadium entry fees for weekly practice games (approx. $4.70 per game)
- A contribution towards training fees to cover court hire costs – this amount will vary from team to team depending on arrangements.
All other expenses associated with attending tournaments such as travel, accommodation and stadium entry fees (if applicable) are the responsibility of the individual player.
Court Time
All players have an important role to play. At Basketball Moe, we genuinely want to see all players develop and succeed, however it is important to understand that court time is not guaranteed.
Coaches will always do their best to ensure that playing time is fair, but please realise it will not necessarily be equal.
