Miner scoops SBL awards

THE Kalgoorlie Miner has scooped the media pool at this year’s State Basketball League awards, taking out four of the five awards at the presentation dinner in Perth.

The Miner’s coverage of the Goldfields Giants in season 2009 by reporters Jarrod Lucas and Nick Rynne and photographer Travis Anderson was rewarded with the prize for print coverage of the year.

It is the sixth time the Miner has won this award, after taking it out in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Photographer Travis Anderson took out the photograph of the year award for his snap of star Giants’ import Alonzo Hird and reporter Nick Rynne won journalist of the year and print story of the year.

Editor John Horner congratulated the winners and thanked the entire Kalgoorlie Miner’s editorial team for their hard work this season.

“Awards of this kind are keenly sought by the media, journalists and photographers as they are accolades which are well-deserved,” he said.

“In the case of the Kalgoorlie Miner the awards recognise the enormous effort staff make to deliver quality stories and photographs to our readers.”
