Double blow for Senators

THE Stirling Senators men’s and women’s sides endured a weekend to forget after suffering heavy losses in their State Basketball League fixtures.

The Stirling men were never in the hunt against an in-form Wanneroo, going down 102-87 at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

The Wolves shot the ball well from the opening stages to establish a 12-point quarter time lead, which they then extended to 22 at the main break.

Stirling fought hard to gain respect in the second half and although they ensured the result was not a blow-out, they would have been disappointed.

Edward Morris Jnr continued his solid form with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Chris Dodd (13 points and 14 rebounds) was also in good touch.

The loss sees Stirling remain in seventh place on the SBL table, but sit a long way behind Wanneroo in the battle for sixth.

In the women’s competition, Stirling continued their season of misery after a 74-40 rout at the hands of Wanneroo

After leading by a point at quarter time, the Senators could not maintain the pressure on their fancied opponents and endured a horrible shooting night.

The side hit just one field goal for the entire third quarter, and could only muster a woeful 21 per cent from the floor for the night as they let the deficit get out of hand in the second half.

Gabriella Clayton (12 points) and Elizabeth Cooke (10) were the only Senators to reach double figures for scoring.

The result sealed a 12th straight loss for the Senators, who are still searching for their second win.
