June PowerPlayer & Coach of the Month

The State Basketball League (SBL) has revealed its monthly player & coach awards. Sponsored by PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco, the PowerPlayer of the Month & PowerPlay Coach of the Month for WSBL & MSBL receive a $50.00 voucher to PowerPlay Sports Store.

The June PowerPlayer of the month for the WSBL competition is Renae Camino from the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks.  Camino played four games in June and the Redbacks won all four. Throughout the month Camino averaged 34.5 points, 16 rebounds and 4.5 assists. On top of this her shooting averages were 53.7% from the floor 74.4% from the free throw line and 30.8% from outside the three-point arc.

Others that came under close consideration for the award were Brooke Hiddlestone from the Redbacks (27.5 points & 20.3 rebounds in 4 games), Shelley Boston from Mandurah (17.8 points and 11.8 rebounds in 4 games), Deanna Smith from Perry Lakes (31.4 points and 7 rebounds in 5 games) & Natalie Young from Lakeside (22.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in 6 games). .  

The WSBL PowerPlay Coach of the Month went to the Perry Lakes Hawks mentor Glenn Ellis. Ellis’ side is still on top of the ladder at 15-3. The Hawks also finished 5-0 for the month with an average winning margin of 37.8 points cementing their place on the top of the ladder.

In the Men’s competition the PowerPlayer of the Month went to Stirling Senators star import Edward Morris Jr.  Morris Jr finished the month with averages of 26.8 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists over 6 games. In his six games he led his side to a 3-2 record (including a crucial 2-0 weekend in Round 16) and 7th spot on the ladder.

Other players in consideration for the award were Chris Christoferssen (Tigers), Jeff Dowdell (Wolves), Tom Garlepp (Hawks), Chris Lynch (Redbacks), Luke Meyer (Buccs), Luke Payne (Lightning) & Joe Nixon (Eastern Suns)

The PowerPlay coach of the month for June is Steve Charlton from the SKILLED Goldfields Giants. Charlton led his side to a 5-1 record for the month, dropping only one game on the road to the Cougars. This strengthened the Giants top two aspirations taking them to second place with a 17-5 record just one game ahead of the Buccs.
