Week 16 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 16 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Sixteen’s winner is Australian Opals star Carly Wilson from the Australian Central Eagles. In guiding her side to two wins over powerhouse clubs Willetton & Mandurah, Wilson led from the front. Against the fourth placed Tigers Wilson finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. This was backed up with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers player Ashley Gilmore was closely considered for the award for her two games. In the Tigers shock loss to the Eagles Gilmore led the way with 15 points and 19 rebounds. Gilmore was even more impressive the next night against the Slammers, with a triple-double game. In an all-round effort Gilmore had 13 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists & 6 steals.

Others in consideration for the Week 16 award were Emily Fielding (Eastern Suns), Natalie Young (Lightning) , Kaye Tucker (Flames), Ella Buckley (Cougars), Elizabeth Lennox (Slammers), Elizabeth Cooke (Senators), Shelley Boston (Magic), Brooke Hiddlestone (Redbacks), Renee Camino (Redbacks), Gabriella Clayton (Senators) & Sharelle Johnson (Flames).

In the Men’s competition Eastern Suns star Adrian Majstrovich stepped up in the absence of import Joe Nixon, earning him the Week 16 PowerPlayer of the Week. On Friday at Lakeside, Majstrovich had 36 points and 10 rebounds in an 11 point loss. On Saturday in the crucial game against the Redbacks Majstrovich was again outstanding, stepping up in overtime to help his side outscore the Redbacks 22-9 in the extra period. He finished the game with 39 points, 25 rebounds & 8 assists as his side won 132-116.

Chris Christoferssen was under close consideration for his two strong games. Against the Eagles Christoferssen had 16 points and 34 rebounds, however his side lost 101-91. Against the Slammers Christoferssen stepped up with 30 points, 22 rebounds and 4 assists. Edward Morris Jr was also impressive leading his side to two crucial wins in their push to make the 8. Morris Jr averaged 27.5 points, 16 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Others that were considered for the award were John Taylor (Eagles), Kosta Illic (Tigers), Luke Payne (Lightning), Ryan Godfrey (Flames), Alex Prince (Cougars), Vincent James (Slammers), Seb Salinas (Senators), Tom Garlepp (Hawks), Michael Haney (Giants), Jeff Dowdell (Wolves), Tom Remmerswaal (Magic), Chris Lynch (Redbacks) & Joseph Harrel Jr (Flames).
